Prospect Spotlight: Jamin Arend (2019)
Jamin Arend isn’t an upperclassmen yet but he’s got a state title, an all tournament team medal, and he’s playing up at 17U.
Bridgewater-Emery was the lone unbeaten team not just in South Dakota but in all of the surrounding states! How did that all come together for a 26-0 record?
“I think we mainly just grew as a team and our chemistry was key as we went into the state tournament,” Arend told PHD.
“The experiences that I’m going to take from it was the atmosphere that we brought along with making the all tournament team with my cousin and best friend it was all great.
Sam Arend has graduated but Jamin and fellow sophomore Sawyer Schultz will be back as will be Cole Gassman, Carter Dye, and Duot Van Sickle. Expectations are high and Arend is preparing to do what he has to to meet this expectations.
“I am really hoping my ball handling skills and shot off the dribble will become better to make it to another state tournament,” Arend said. “Along with my defense taking another step up.”
Jamin is also preparing for next year by playing with the BBA Force second 17u team.
“It’s challenged me because the players that play AAU ball are good like really good and you aren’t always going to get that easy shot or easy layup you have to work for that.” Jamin said.
“I learned that even though you’re only playing with this team for three months out of the summer you still have to have good chemistry and play as a team it isn’t all about “you”.
Arend has a bright athletic future that could include college hoops but he’s got two years left to lead the Huskies to more wins.
“I think I’m just hungry for another couple titles,” Arend said. “In all honesty though I would love to continue my basketball career in basketball don’t really know yet where though.”
