Prospect Spotlight: Anthony Barnard (2018)
Anthony Barnard – 6’5” | SG/SF | Kokomo High School
Anthony Barnard is a long wing prospect who is starting to develop into the player that controls games on both ends of the floor. He is playing his summer ball with G3 Grind on the Under Armour Association Circuit. He had a productive spring session and put together some good games. He plays his high school ball for Kokomo High School.
“With G3 Grind, the spring session was pretty good. A lot of good competition and great exposure.” Barnard started turning heads and playing in his more natural position on the wing.
Anthony is a team oriented player who does what is needed for the team to be successful. “I was mainly doing whatever I can to have success as a team.”
As the month of June winds down, Barnard had the chance to put in work with Kokomo. “Throughout the month of June, it was all about becoming more familiar with our new coach and building our foundation together as a team.” Kokomo is in a transition period but has picked up a strong coach to help them continue to grow as a program.
Kokomo is now headed by Coach Bob Wonnell, who won the Class A Indiana State Championship last season with Indianapolis Tindley. Wonnell was named the Indianapolis Coach of the Year. He brings a winning pedigree to a Kokomo program that has a history of winning.
“For Kokomo, I do a lot for the team. I have been leading the team on offense and doing anything I can to help us win. I’m a versatile player with strengths in shooting and being able to go inside and get a basket for our team.”
Barnard prides himself on being able to help the team win in a multitude of ways. In the off season, Anthony has been working to expand his offensive game. “Definitely working on my quickness and becoming more consistent with my shot.”
As his recruiting heats up, he is more focused on finishing the summer strong before he looks into schools and taking visits. He’s currently receiving interest at all levels (D1 – NAIA) and will be looking to find the right fit in the early fall.
“I’m coachable and can play well with different groups of players.”
Anthony Barnard averaged 13.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists as a junior at Kokomo. Keep a close watch on his progression in July and into the high school season. Should be a good senior year for Barnard.
