Prep Hoops Show Me Showdown Recap (Class of 2020 Point Guards)
Here are some of the top Missouri Class of 2020 point guard/combo guards from last weekend’s Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown in St. Louis.
Casey Jones 5’6″ Arsenal Hoops: One of the smallest players in the tournament, yet also one of the toughest players as well. He is physically built and he stays low on the dribble, which made it difficult for defenders to keep him out of the lane. He finished his share of shots in the land of the giants and he also located open teammates throughout the weekend. He can also make an open shot. Plays with relentless energy.
Jace Lance 5’10” MO Team Carroll: A savvy guard who was very effective as the point guard or off the ball as the shooting guard. He displayed excellent 3-point range throughout the weekend as he knocked down treys off the catch and in transition. He can also get to the basket and create off the dribble. He displayed nice ball handling and passing skills to make him a very effective playmaker.
Jaylen Boyd 6’0″ St. Louis Warriors Blue: A crafty southpaw point guard who knows how to run a team with his ball handling, passing and decision making on the court. He has quick feet and quick hands, which also makes him a good defensive player. He has the ability to get to the basket and score with twisting drives, plus he also has a stop and pop pull up jumper if defenders back up.
Tyler Walker 5’8″ Missouri Impact: A quick, slick point guard who played the role of floor general with expert poise and savvy. Not only was he quick, but he was good at getting to his spots on the floor and keeping his team’s offense flowing. He was able to get to the basket and score with a nice float game. If his team had the lead late in the game, he could be a one-man delay game.
Steffan Black 5’10” MO Team Carroll: A quick point guard who plays with excellent pace and is at his best in the open court. He scored on many coast to coast drives in transition, plus he has a nice pull up jumper from 10 to 12 feet. I really liked his ability to attack the basket and keep defenders on their heels.
Dayton Turner 5’9″ TEM Select: A tough, young point guard who is small but plays with a lot of intensity and aggressiveness. He does an excellent job of playing through contact as he can get in the lane and get buckets among the trees. He also puts in a good effort on the defensive end.
