Prep Hoops Show Me Showdown Recap (Class of 2019 Wings)
Here is a look at some of the top Missouri Class of 2019 wings from last week’s Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown in St. Louis.
Elijah Hicks 6’3″ Arsenal Hoops: An thick, energetic shooting guard who does so many things with his versatility on the offensive end. His is a physically strong, athletic guard who loves to work with the ball in his hands. He will attack the basket off the dribble or he will pull from 3-point range. He can also get you buckets in the low post.
Broc Smith 6’3″ Springfield Hawks: A very solid all-around guard who was the anchor to the team’s run to the 16U championship. He is an excellent 3-point shooter, but his shot wasn’t falling as much as in past weeks, but other teammates picked up the slack. He became a facilitator and did a great job of feeding open teammates from the high post. His high basketball IQ allows the team to run offense through him.
Terrell Cannamore 6’3″ STL Hardwood Hunks: An athletic slashing guard who was one of the best rebounding backcourt players in the tournament. He attacked the offensive boards and scored on a lot of putbacks. He was very active in transition as he recorded several impressive dunks on the break. He also scored while attacking the basket in the halfcourt. Very productive weekend.
Savion Thorpe 6’2″ MO Team Carroll: A smooth shooting guard with the ability to wind it up from 3-point range, Thorpe knocked down a couple of bombs from well beyond the 3-point line. He has good size and the ability to handle the ball and score off the dribble.
Gerrod Riveria 6’2″ KC Hoop Dreams: This was my first time seeing this kid play and I must say I was impressed with his overall ability to score and create buckets in a variety of ways. He scored on cross-overs, spin dribbles and straight line drives to the bucket, but he could also drop off defenders in the mid range area to make jumpers.
Michael Manzardo 6’2″ Springfield Hawks: The wing player did a nice job shooting the basketball throughout the weekend for the 16U champs. He hit six 3-pointers in one pool-play victory. On a team that moved the basketball well, he did a nice job of finding the open spots and knocking down shots.
