Memorial Day Run N Slam Standouts
Dante Wheeler (2020) 6’4 Wing Elida H.S. Ohio
Dante may have had the most impressive performance this weekend scoring 41 points in the Silver Championship game for NW Ohio Basketball Club. He showcased his versatility to score from anywhere on the court. He has the strength to post up smaller defenders while finishing with either hand around the basket. Although he’s right handed, he may prefer finishing with his left hand. He also has the ability to shoot the 3, hitting 6 of them in the final game of the tournament. He is also an outstanding rebounder and will lead the break on a defensive rebound. This prospect is one to keep an eye on.
Noah Wolfe (2020) 5’10 Pt. Guard Ft. Wayne Canterbury H.S. Indiana
Noah is a very confident point guard for the Always 100 Brewer team. He can break down the defense creating open shots for his teammates. He has a very nice spin move, pull up jumper from the elbow that he consistently knocks down. He is a leader on the court while having a swagger about him that his teammates feed off of. This kid is a gym rat and you’ll be hearing a lot about him this upcoming season.
Andrew Welage (2020) 6’5 Shooting Guard Greensburg H.S. Indiana
Andrew put on a show scoring 22 points alone in the second half to help his team get a win after trailing by 5 at halftime. This kid reminds me a lot of a Kyle Korver or J.J. Redick because he runs off screens and he doesn’t need much room to knock down the shot. He does a great job of keeping his balance after running off screens, getting his shoulders square and he has a quick release which makes him a tough assignment for anyone on the defense. He likes the midrange/elbow jumper which a lot of kids don’t have in their game anymore. He is athletic and crafty with ball in his hands to get to the basket. If he puts on some weight, he will be able to play D1 basketball in college without question.
Nathan Bruns (2019) 6’6 Wing Marion Local H.S. Ohio
College coaches are flipping through their programs to find out who this kid is since he missed the AAU season last year due to an ACL injury. Nate doesn’t mind playing in the post or stepping out on the wing. He is strong and has patience on the block to recognize if a double team is coming, recognizing who’s open and making that pass or if he has a chance to go one on one, then he has an array of post moves that can make any defender look bad at times. He can knock down the 3-ball as well. Nate also has really soft hands and rebounds on both ends of the floor very well. He just has a knack for the ball. A lot of D2 college basketball coaches are drooling at his talent right now but Nate may even be better at football where he plays QB for his power house high school team. People in his home town believe he will be the best QB to have ever played at Marion Local when it is all said and done. At this time, he prefers playing basketball over football.
Jourdyn Rawlins (2021) 5’8 Point Guard Lima Senior H.S. Ohio
There wasn’t one defender who could keep Jourdyn in front of them this weekend. This kid is QUICK and has good handles to go with that quickness. He splits traps, euros around defenders and has really nice vision on the court. He had 27 points and 7 assists while also proving to be the best defender on the court. He utilizes his quickness on the defensive end by causing havoc on opposing point guards forcing several turnovers and a handful of times he picked their pocket.
