Lindenwood Team Camp Recap (Class of 2018 Guards/Wings)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2018 guards and wings from last weekend’s Lindenwood University Team Camp in St. Charles, MO:
Torrence Watson 6’5″ Whitfield: The smooth shooting guard is now playing at a robust 195-pounds, which really gives him the ability to finish through contact and play a more physical game, as he constantly gets to the free throw line. His 3-point stroke continues to get better which makes him a more potent scorer. Will soon be coming to a high major program near you.
Malachi Smith 6’3″ Belleville West: The talented shooting guard continued his excellent play during the spring and early summer by helping lead the Maroons to the tournament championship. He is athletic and very skilled and I liked how creative he was in getting to the basket and scoring at the rim. He also made a variety of floaters and jumpers and got out in transition and displayed his athleticism.
Brooks Ford 6’3″ DeSmet: Brooks was one of the top perimeter shooters in the tournament in the day that I watched. He was constantly knocking them down from well beyond the 3-point line. He was moving well without the basketball and getting to the open spots and also running out on the break to get transition 3-pointers.
Miles Jones 6’4″ St. Mary’s: The big-bodied wing player is a tough match up on the perimeter because he is very skilled and very physical with the ball, thus he is able to get to the basket and anywhere he wants on the floor. He can score on the drive and he also has a nice pull up jumper.
Jake Hampton 5’11” Fort Zumwalt West: This young man is a very solid point guard who plays a savvy game with and without the ball. He handles the ball well and can facilitate and keep the ball moving. He has a very good stop and pop jumper from 15 feet where he can pull up after attacking the basket at full speed.
Zach Niemeyer 6’0″ Christian-O’Fallon: Another savvy point guard who is always attacking and probing to find ways to get to the basket. He is a solid passer and a very adroit passer who can get the ball to his teammates from many different angles. He’s tough and he can handle himself against pressure very well. He can also make an open perimeter shot.
