IAABO Team Camp Recap (Class of 2019 Standouts)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2019 standouts from this week’s IAABO Team Camp at Francis Howell Central High in St. Charles, MO.
E.J. Bellinger 6’4″ Fort Zumwalt South: The talented shooting guard was one of the most impressive players that I watched in the camp. He is a very talented scorer who can knock down 3-pointers off the catch, but put the ball on the floor and make mid-range 15-footers with ease. In a game against Parkway South, he opened with three consecutive 3-pointers and a dunk. E.J. has also improved his explosiveness, which was evident in several transition slam dunks.
Daylen Dalton 5’6″ Francis Howell: The little speed merchant is a tremendous floor general for the Vikings. He plays at a high rate of speed, but knows how to stay under control for the benefit of the team. He was excellent in the open court as he constantly found open teammates everywhere on the floor. He can also get to the basket and knock down short jumpers when he looks for his own offense.
Malek Davis 5’10” Cardinal Ritter: Davis is a skilled offensive player from the point guard position, but I was impressed with his overall leadership this week as he played with a lot of underclassmen. He did an excellent job of distributing the basketball and keeping his young teammates involved. When it was time to get buckets, he showed his capability to knock down mid-range jumpers and open 3-pointers.
Avery Taggert 6’3″ Eureka: A very solid wing player who has good size and uses it to his advantage. He can play all three perimeter positions, which he will do quite often for his high school team. He can handle the ball well, plus he is a very capable offensive player. He uses his strength to get to the basket plus he can also knock down open 3-pointers. His size and high basketball IQ make for a tough player to match up with.
Trent Champagne 6’2″ St. Charles West: A very skilled combo guard who impressed me with his overall offensive game. He spent much of the time playing point guard, which he did well with his size and court vision. He has slick moves to the basket and his pull-up jumper from 15 feet is very good.
