IAABO Team Camp Recap (Class of 2018 Forwards)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2018 forwards from this week’s IAABO Team Camp at Francis Howell Central High in St. Charles, MO:
Andrew Nett 6’5″ Troy: The long combo forward was one of the top 3-point shooters at the team camp. He displayed excellent range off the catch and good concentration as he converted a big four-point play in a victory over Cardinal Ritter. He also displayed a willingness to go inside and mix it up and get buckets in the low post. He plays hard and battles for rebounds and loose balls.
A.J. Sommer 6’5″ Parkway South: A good all-around forward who wears many hats for the Patriots as their leader and most experienced player. He will rebound, handle the ball, guard multiple positions and deliver pinpoint passes to teammates. Offensively, he is most effective when driving to the basket and operating in the high post where he has a nice touch from 12 to 15 feet. He is the top returning player on a conference championship team.
Jordan Brown 6’5″ Jennings: A long, athletic combo forward who is capable of playing a number of roles for his team. On defense, he did an excellent job of the top of the Warriors full-court press, where he could use his length and athleticism to create turnovers. He is a good scorer from 15 feet on the offensive end, plus he gets his share of offensive rebounds for buckets.
Zach Summers 6’5″ Eureka: An improving post player who did a lot of positive work inside as a scorer and rebounder. He sets good solid screens and he posts up well and gets good position in the paint. He has good fundamentals and a nice shooting touch around the basket.
Mark Simmons 6’4″ Francis Howell: A versatile southpaw forward who was very effective in the transition game. He ran the court well and converted many fast-break layups. He has a herky-jerky style of play which makes him very effective on the offensive end, whether he was operating in the low post on slashing to the basket.
Jack Mullen 6’5″ Parkway South: A solid power forward who played with a great amount of energy in the games that I watched. He seemed to be everywhere, whether he was flying in for rebounds, driving to the basket and battling for position. It made for some very productive moments. He also handled the ball and worked on the perimeter, which was something new for him.
