Run-n-Slam: Top 2020 Performers
This past weekend, one of the best events of the Spring got underway with the Bill Hensley Memorial Run-n-Slam. We got to see a ton of the top Midwest talent. We spent a lot of time looking at some teams we had yet to see this spring. With that, here are some of the top players we saw in the class of 2020.
Jack Townsend – 6’1 | SG | 2020 | Bloomington North (IN) | Team Blaze Select 2018 – Jack is a thin framed guard who can light it up from distance. At times he can be hot and cold but when he is on, he is a guy that you have to feed and just let him keep shooting until he misses. Has a little attitude to his game which isn’t a bad thing.
Anthony Leal – 6’3 | SG | 2020 | Bloomington South (IN) | Indiana Elite 2020 – Leal is starting to take his game to another level. Still doing the same things, mainly shooting but adding in some ability to drive. The difference is he is able to put up a greater level of points pointing to his demeanor where he knows when to attack and do it more often. This is the first big step in his game and still has plenty of upside to tap into.
Trey Galloway – 6’3 | SG | 2020 | Culver Academies (IN) | Indiana Elite 2020 – Galloway has proven, very similarly to had Kyle Guy had to, to show his frame can be strong and that while thin, his strength was not going to be a big question mark for him. He’s really attacking the rim more and with that has the toughness to finish through contact and get to the rim. It is a good thing to see this early on, especially if he can add more muscle down the line.
Andrew Welage – 6’5 | SF | 2020 | Greensburg (IN) | Indy Heat 2020 EYBL – Welage showed this past weekend that he really has some game to him. Thin, needs to add strength, but the kid can go and score the ball. Dynamic in how he can score at all three levels. Looks better each time we get to watch him and has so much upside to tap into down the road.
Brandon Bell – 6’2 | SG | 2020 | Mt. Vernon-Fortville (IN) | Indy Heat 2020 EYBL – Bell was impressive when we were in the gym. Tall guard that can handle the ball and even play the point in short stints but at the same time, he can shoot the ball pretty well. Has good release on the jumper and has the size to be able to get it off against close defenders.
