“AAU has been good,” he said. “We have had a few really good games where I was able to stand out. It helps a lot that I knew most of the guys before the season started. Also, playing with Josiah (Strong) is helping us both prepare for the upcoming regular season and building that chemistry that you need with guards and big men. I’m also always looking to improve my conditioning, I don’t think you can ever do that enough.”
It goes without saying that Carlston’s job next winter is to try and replace Marquette-bound Champlin senior Theo John. Although those are big shoes to fill (literally and figuratively), Carlston will keep working.
“I want to develop my post moves inside since I have big shoes to fill with Theo leaving,” he added. “My mid-range is also something I want to work on so that I can face up more in the post and have confidence of knocking down the 15-ft jumper.”
Carlston recently attended camp at the University of Chicago and “had a great time.” He was able to sit down with the current players and talk about basketball and life in general.
Right now I have interest from University of Chicago, Gustavus, and Saint Mary’s University,” he said. “I’d like to attend a college that is high in academics. Playing basketball is something I would like to do in college, but the education piece of it also is something I take highly into consideration.”
