On The Radar: 2018 Power Forwards
Over the last few days, we have been putting out our Top 10 lists of some of the best players for different categories. Obviously, there are more beyond the Top 10 and we want to highlight those players as well. Today, we are looking at five power forwards that are on our radar but need more attention.
Asher Blum – 6’7 | PF | Warsaw (IN) | Spiece Indy Heat Red 2018
Blum is a long, lean forward that hasn’t gotten much attention yet as he’s still developing as a player and comes from the Northern part of the state. He’s likely more of a wing forward than a true post as he has the mobility and comfort to play on the perimeter. Has the size and length to be a decent defender. Offensively, he’s still putting it together but has the upside to be worth a long look.
Freeman Brou – 6’5 | PF | Northeastern (IN) | Spiece Indy Heat Red 2018
Freeman is new to the state this past year but he’s been pretty good to start. During the high school season you saw him play more as a post forward. This summer, he’s been more versatile. Now, being impactful with that versatility is still what he needs but he’s got the size, strength, and skill to be an impact guy for a small school college.
Lucas Lehrman – 6’7 | PF | Bishop Dwenger (IN) | Spiece Indy Heat Red 2018
Lehrman has the build of a true low post forward and the game of one. Really good finisher near the rim. He’s got a little inconsistency from game to game which will need to fix but he’s got a great frame and has shown some explosiveness around the rim this spring. With no size in this class, he could be one of the best to look at.
Matt Krause – 6’6 | PF | West Lafayette (IN)
There are always a lot of guys that don’t play AAU and Krause is one of them. He’s a guy to be aware of though as he is a really versatile four-man for a small school program. Matt can play faced up or in the post and has a good lower half to be able to post up with effectiveness. Really like how well he could play as a small school big man.
Sam Fulton – 6’5 | PF | Evansville Mater Dei (IN)
Fulton is another that isn’t playing AAU this summer but a name that should be on the radars of colleges. The power forward is really mobile and athletic and is one of the better finishers around the rim we have seen. Skill on the perimeter is an area of development but he’s really effective in the post and could provide some offense.
