Prospect Spotlight: Jamil Turner-Hall (2018)
Last high school season, when thinking of breakout players in the 2018 class, you have to put Fishers (IN) guard Jamil Turner-Hall in that group. Fishers was a stacked team at the guard spot but Turner-Hall had many games last year that showed you just what he could be.
The 6’0 guard from Fishers (IN) has now transferred to Hamilton Southeastern for his senior season. Jamil was just a guy heading into last high school season. Then at the beginning of the year, Turner-Hall started his season with a 23-point game against Indianapolis Manual and it kept going from there. He averaged 12.7 points per game last season. He did have some inconsistencies from game-to-game but the underlying numbers say it was more about balanced team scoring.
Jamil shot 37% from three and 49% from the field last year. Not only that, but he paired that with 3.8 assists per contest and 1.1 steals. He showed a very well rounded game and with this guard heavy lineup, he was a distributor that help a respectable 1.5 AST/TO ratio.
For Jamil, his big frame makes it easy for him to get to the rim. But, he is also fairly creative and has the lateral agility to be able to slash to the rim. He’s good in transition but also just as good in the halfcourt. If he can improve and add more to his perimeter jumper, his offense could take another jump. The deciding factor is his distributing ability. If he can add that offense and still be able to find the open man, that is what makes him special.
This summer, Jamil is running with Indiana Faith 2018 and having a solid spring. His recruiting has started to heat up as well. He’s heard from a number of schools at different levels including Marian, Wabash, IUPUI, Saint Francis, Indiana Wesleyan, Bellarmine, and Eastern Kentucky.
With his move over to Hamilton Southeastern, he will join another stacked backcourt with guys like Noah Smith, Jerron Bond, Nick Bowman, and Josh Fugate. It won’t be something foreign to him and with his experience and success to this point, it will be interesting to see how he fares and if can continue to upward trajectory.
