Prospect Spotlight: Demetrius Young Jr. (2018)
This past high school season, Broad Ripple (IN) was one of the bigger surprises of the season as they went 18-6 and was one of the best teams inside of I-465. A big reason for that was the development of talent.
One of the newest names on the radar this year was 6’5 wing Demetrius Young Jr. The 2018 prospect has really played well dating back to our first look at him this past fall in the Metro Indy Fall League. He’s now a name that is starting to come onto the radar of some small college programs in the state.
This spring, he already is gaining interest from Wabash College, Huntington University, Rose-Hulman, and Carthage College. He’s got a couple visits lined up this coming month to head to Wabash College and Huntington University.
The high-academic student is really an intriguing prospect. Having great grades to go along with his ability to be a high-end mid-range shooter really makes him a coveted guy among small colleges.
This past high school season, he averaged 6.1 points and 4.7 rebounds to go along with 1.5 assists per game. The best part of his game is his shooting where he shot 48% from behind the arc. He is still a bit inconsistent with that shooting but when on you can see how dynamic he can be because he isn’t so ball dominant but effective and efficient. Given more time to develop and with more than a third of Broad Ripple’s scoring graduating, he could really jump into a good situation this coming season and be a breakout candidate.
To find shooting ability to pair with rebounding and size isn’t that easy to find. Especially when you add in his academic work, Young Jr. is a guy that might soon have more schools tracking him as he plays with Spiece Indy Ice this spring and summer.
