Prospect Spotlight: Charles Freeman (2018)
A 5’11 2018 guard, Charles Freeman suffered an ankle injury last year and didn’t get much playing time at Kansas City Center, but is transferring to Grandview Christian for his senior season.
He is an aggressive guard that can shoot from the outside and also attack the bucket. He says he plays with a chip on my shoulder.
“Last high school season I didn’t play much because of a ankle injury, but without me they had a pretty good season,” Freeman said.
He has spent the offseason competing for the KC MO Knights and hopes the experience pays off down the road.
“The beginning of the summer has been great,” Freeman said. “I’ve been getting a lot of exposure and I’m looking forward to getting offers from big colleges.
“I’m looking forward to playing the top guards in the country to see where my game is and compete at a high level.”
He says his brother D’ante Smith has had the most influence on his basketball career to date.
“He was an explosive combo guard that could do anything and he had a willingness to win and his love for the game rubbed off on me and that’s why i’m doing what i’m doing,” Freeman said.
Freeman says he enjoys watching Kyrie Irving play and has tried to implement elements of the Cavs’ guards game into his own.
“I think our games are similar but I also enjoy watching Russell Westbrook, he plays with a lot of emotion and i could relate to that,” Freeman said. “I try to use a little of both in my game , with Kyrie’s shiftiness and Westbrooks explosiveness i try to balance it out, but I have my own unique game.”
Freeman says he has heard from Kings College in New York and is still waiting for his first offer.
