Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown: Saturday Standouts (17U)
The first day of the Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown in St. Louis featured several excellent individual performances. Here are some of Saturday’s standouts from Missouri in the 17U Division.
R.J. Wright 6’1″ St. Louis Bearcats: The lanky combo guard enjoyed a big day offensively in leading the Bearcats into today’s Final Four of the tournament. He averaged nearly 20 points a game while continuing his hot shooting during the spring season. He shot the 3-pointer well off the catch and he also made several transition treys as well. Wright was also good in transition and he also did a nice job on defense in helping to create turnovers. Attends Webster Groves.
Dominic Pointer 6’1″ St. Louis Cobras Elite: A strong, physical guard who spent the entire day getting buckets for his team in a variety of ways. He constantly beat defenders off the dribble as he used his strength and determination to get to the basket and finish through contact. He displayed a nice mid-range jumper and he made enough 3-pointers to keep defenders honest. Attends St. Charles.
Jermaine Bell 6’3″ Southern Illinois Steelers: A very skilled an athletic wing player who was able to showcase his offensive game on the first day. He was very good in transition as he finished plays with dunks and layups. He has smooth handles which enabled him to create space to get to the basket or get off his jumpers. He will be attending Confluence Academy next season.
Darious Thomas 6’0″ St. Louis Shooting Stars: An athletic combo guard who spent the entire day attacking the basket in a relentless manner and getting the results. Thomas had many coast to coast rushes to the basket which resulted in a bucket or an And 1. He did an excellent job of drawing contact and getting buckets. Attends Fort Zumwalt South.
Dominic Mitchell 6’3″ St. Louis Bearcats: An all-purpose player who did a little bit of everything in helping his team to today’s Final Four round. Dominic can handle the ball and facilitate the offense as a point forward. He has an excellent post game with a variety of old-school moves in which he uses his guile and footwork around the basket. He also nailed several jump shots off the catch and scored on nifty drives to the hoops. Attends St. Mary’s.
Morenke Bettis 6’3″ St. Louis Shooting Stars: An unsigned 2017 player who is still looking for a college opportunity. Bettis is a talented offensive player with good size and athletic ability. He has strong handles and the ability to create his own shot off the dribble, whether he’s getting to the basket or a mid-range jumper.
