New Faces: 2020 Prospects
With the tailend of the spring AAU circuit about over, we are ready to take a look over some of our notes and dive into some names. This round is all about new faces. Who have we discovered? Who is worthy of bringing their name to light? Here are some guys in the class of 2020.
Daniel Asher – 6’5 | PF | Indianapolis Roncalli (IN) | IE Side Orange 2020 – Daniel is a big, tall forward with a ton of mobility and a great frame that is likely to grow a ton more. He’s active in the post as a rebounder and finisher, just needs to add a bit more strength to finish some plays. Good footwork and mobility might allow him to stretch the floor a lot more.
Mason Gonzales – 6’0 | SG | Franklin Central (IN) | IE Side Orange 2020 – Mason is a thin combo guard with a little bit of strength but a frame that is going to take on a lot more. He’s got some solid handles and likes to create a bit along the arc. Best as a catch and shoot guy but showed a mid-range pull-up.
Noah Hupmann – 6’10 | C | Evansville Day (IN) | Distinxion CHAMPIONS 15U Black – Noah is a very tall, skinny post player with limited skill right now. Not very assertive so he won’t be too productive but he’s a legit 6’10 and can get up and down the floor. Lacks strength and that could help give him confidence. Could have legit upside once he does that. Did rebound the ball well when it came to him.
Justin DeGraaf – 6’4 | SF | Center Grove (IN) | GP Premier 2020-O’Connor – DeGraaf is a tall guard with loads of strength and a mature frame. He’s got decent speed and can play in transition as well as the half court. Finishes well at the rim with strength. Moves pretty well and could be a solid defender that could play on guards and wings. Should have the ability to play inside offensively as well.
Jack Copenhaver – 6’4 | PF | Floyd Central (IN) | Pocket City 2020 – Copenhaver is an undersized forward with good strength already and plenty of size right now. Maturing already so not sure how much more he will grow. In the post, he’s pretty aggressive and will fight on the boards. Not a scorer, though, as he lacks any perimeter game and can’t create in the mid-range.
Harrison Truitt – 6’3 | SF | West Lafayette (IN) | IE Central 2020 – Harrison is a tall wing with good strength already and solid handles. He’s got an older brother that is an offensive tackle at Purdue so he’s likely to get taller but doesn’t look like he will be nearly as big. Could potentially play more on the ball as his handles are solid enough right now. Will play around the rim and can score it pretty well off rebounds.
Isaac Farnsworth – 6’1 | SG | Lakewood Park (IN) | Always 100 2020-Kindig – Isaac is a solid scoring guard with a big frame and some strength already. He looked good as a guy who could stay on the ball and create. Wasn’t deceptively fast but had enough creativity that he could put the ball in the basket. Decent shooter from distance and in the mid-range.
Tony Perkins – 6’2 | SG | Lawrence North (IN) | EG10 2020 – Perkins is an athletic guard with a big frame and some strength now. He’s a driving threat that can slash and still overpower with his speed at the rim. Draws a bit of contact and will put up points at the free throw line. Has shown a perimeter jumper but not enough to count on it yet. He’s a really solid ball handler for an off-guard which should help support his offensive opportunities moving forward.
Charlie Peterson – 6’5 | PF | North Central (IN) | EG10 2020 – Peterson is a tall forward who has a decent frame but lacks strength right now. Will play more on the perimeter and look to shoot it a bit. Needs to be in the paint a big more to add more production to his game. Tends to get taken out of plays right now because he’s floating on the wing. With that said, he’s really solid with his size and if he can add more and more offense he could be a guy who develops more on the perimeter.
John Stroke – 6’6 | PF | North Central (IN) | EG10 2020 – Stroke is a tall forward with a great frame and strength already. Isn’t going to be extremely athletic but is enough and pretty agile that he can play inside-out and defend on the wing if needed. Can put the ball on the floor a bit and create from 12’ and in. Does it on slashing and cutting. Aggressive on the boards as well and will battle for them outside of his area. Has upside as he adds more offense.
