St. Louis Spring Showdown Recap (Class of 2020 Forwards)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2020 forwards from last weekend’s St. Louis Spring Showdown
J.J. Schwepker 6’4″ St. Louis Warriors: The talented shooting forward helped lead the Warriors to a runner-up finish in the 16U Division. He has good size and is very comfortable on the perimeter as a wing player or a Stretch 4. His strength is shooting the basketball which he does really well off the catch. J.J. also did a nice job of moving without the basketball and scoring on hard cuts to the basket. Was impressed with his versatility.
Darian Smith 6’3″ Missouri Impact 17U: An athletic and very explosive young power forward who played up at the 17U level and held his own throughout the weekend. He played with tremendous energy, especially when it came to grabbing rebounds and blocking shots. Smith had several dunks over the weekend, either in transition or in the low post. He also had some strong takes to the basket from the high post.
Evan Schneider 6’5″ STL Hardwood Hunks 16U: It was my first time seeing this young big in action and I was impressed with his level of activity during the tournament. He worked hard on both ends of the basket and fought for rebounds. He has a strong body and he did a good job of posting up and holding his position in the low post. A good blue-collar performer.
Matthew Garnatz 6’3″ T.E.M. Select: A blue collar post player who did a nice job in helping his team to the 15U championship. He is strong and plays with a lot of toughness around the basket. He scored on a number of offensive put-backs. He approaches the game with a lot of intensity.
Sofara Rasas 6’4″ St. Louis Warriors: One of the more athletic 2020 kids in the tournament, Rasas came off the bench and immediately changed the tempo of the game with his athleticism on both ends of the court. He swooped in for offensive rebounds and got out on the fast break and did an excellent job in transition.
