St. Louis Spring Showcase Recap (Class of 2019 Guards/Wings)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2019 guards/wings from last weekend’s St. Louis Spring Showcase
Derez Tipler 5’10” SEMO Bulls: A talented point guard who knows how to run a club on both ends of the floor. He helped lead the Bulls to the 16U championship with his overall play. Offensively, he is strong on the dribble and looks to facilitate, but he has the ability to get buckets and knock down 3-pointers. He is a pass-first point guard who can score. He puts in a strong effort on the defensive end where he likes to pressure the ball. Has a good combination of strength and quickness.
Amorey Womack 6’0″ Missouri Impact 17U: One of the better scoring threats in the tournament, Womack’s shot was a little off during the first day, but his stroke was back on the second day as he got buckets off the dribble and from 3-point range. What makes him hard to defend off the dribble is that he gets so low when he is getting to the basket. He’s either going to get a bucket or he’s going to the free throw line.
Avery Taggert 6’3″ STL Express: The big combo guard has a nice combination of size, strength and all-around perimeter skills. At 200 pounds, he is a problem for smaller guards because he is able to get to his spots on the floor and knock down jumpers on the move or get to the basket. Taggert also has an excellent stroke from 3-point range. He spents a lot of time at point guard for his summer team, which should help his handle and decision making, but he will probably project to be a big wing player.
Isaiah Ervin 6’0″ Larry Hughes Basketball Academy: A smooth offensive player who can really get buckets in a lot of ways. Ervin is an excellent 3-point shooter off the catch. He nailed a number of shots from well beyond the 3-point line. He is much more than a shooter, I like his overall offensive game. Ervin was a very good finisher in transition and he also had a way of getting by people off the dribble in a quick manner without looking like he was in a hurry. Very under control.
Javon Bolden 6’1″ Larry Hughes Basketball Academy: A talented combo guard who plays with a lot of confidence on the offensive end. He is fearless when it comes to attacking the basket and getting out on the fast break, where he is very effective. Javon is also a good 3-point shooter. He plays the game with a lot of zeal. Played a key role in Northwest Academy’s run to a state championship during the season and you can see the building confidence in his game.
Bryson Bultmann 6’4″ Team Spark: A big point guard who does a nice job using his size to his advantage. He has a number of crafty moves to get to the basket and he can finish. I really like his spin move, which is tight and covers a lot of ground with that long stride. It also usually ends up in a layup. Bryson is also a good facilitator who can find open teammates from anywhere on the court, whether he is on the dribble or posting up.
