Recruiting Report: Mario McKinney (2019)
Mario McKinney has had a pretty amazing start to his high school career. The 2019 Vashon guard has won back to back state titles as a freshman and sophomore.
Currently ranked No. 4 in the , the 6’2″, 170-pounder said it is surreal winning another state title, something he said is never easy doing once let alone twice.
In terms of what improved in his game this past season, this is what McKinney noticed.
“I learned to be a become an even better teammate,” he told Prep Hoops Missouri. “My jump shot got consistently better and my free throw percentage was better.”
McKinney continued his success on the court over the past two days playing in seven games for Bradley Beal Elite while capturing the championship title in the 16U bracket at the NY2LA Sports Swish ‘N Dish Tournament.
In his first year with the team, he’s just aiming to improve his all-around game.
Starting his basketball career at age 5, McKinney prides himself on playing hard on both ends of the floor, taking no plays off and his rebounding skills.
McKinney holds eight offers right now from DePaul, Kansas State, Auburn, St. Louis, Missouri, Tulsa, Duquesne and Southern Mississippi.
He has also drawn interest from UNLV, Xavier, Cincinnati, Arkansas, Illinois, Wichita State and Virginia.
When you are able to win a lot of games, you are destined to be noticed. For McKinney, he’s winning all year long and performing at a high level. He’s going to earn plenty of more offers before the end of 2017 and with more big games on the EYBL Circuit, the better off he’ll be.
He’s a shooting guard who is rising fast. McKinney excels on the defensive end with his lateral quickness and offense he can get the best of you if you aren’t paying attention.
