Recruiting Report: Javon Freeman (2018)
Javon Freeman was the star for Whitney Young in their playoff ride to a state title. Slippery through traffic attacking downhill. Gets and-1s at the rim. Smooth handles allow him to get where he wants on the floor. Plus scoring in transition. Jump shot needs to become more consistent as he is mainly just a driver at this stage. Flashes the ability to pass the ball, but his scoring game is where he excels at this stage. Mid-majors and low-majors should take a look at him in the spring live periods.
Freeman played a major role in their state title run in the playoffs. The junior discussed that along with how his game is evolving as a player.
“It was a great end to the season we went down there and got the championship. I think I continue to progress each day and get better and better each day.”
The junior broke down where he feels his game has improved the most and what his biggest weakness is at this stage in his development.
“I can finish around the rim better now. I need to continue to work on my jump shot.”
Where do things stand with recruiting?
“Still have got one offer from Loyola. I am hearing from Tulsa, Drake, and few others.”
Loyola came in early and made a push for him early in the process. He spoke with PHI about what he likes when it comes to the hometown MVC program.
“Great school and great academics. I feel like I can become a better if I went there.”
Expect Freeman’s stock to climb even more this spring with Meanstreets in the Nike EYBL as he could very easily make a jump into the top 10 in the 2018 rankings.
