Prospect Spotlight: Zhahidi Robinson (2018)
2018 guard Zhahidi Robinson has played an integral part in Largo’s success the past two seasons.
Robinson helped the Packers by adding 10 points in the Class 6A state title game loss to Dillard as a sophomore as Largo went 22-7 on the year. This past season, he dropped 31 points in the 7A region semifinal win over Port Charlotte. He then kept his group alive in the region final loss to Lehigh 61-59 at the buzzer as the Packers went 19-8 on the season.
“This season at Largo was a learning experience as an upperclassman,” Robinson told Prep Hoops Florida. “I took more of a leadership role with three big name seniors graduating last year. We had a decent regular season going on long winning runs and small losing streaks. We picked it back up in playoffs, winning our district and winning the first two rounds off regionals. Then we traveled down to a tough Lehigh environment and lost by two points at the buzzer.”
Named to the All-Tournament team at the Gulfshore Holiday Hoopfest and First-Team All-Conference, Robinson’s smarts flashed throughout the season.
He’s focused on earning his first offer, becoming more of a vocal leader and improving his all-around offensive game. Currently the 6’1″, 165-pounder has interest from Eckerd and Southeastern Louisiana.
Robinson is spending his fifth summer with the Warehouse Ballers. He says the program has elevated his overall game on both sides of the ball, has made him a leader and has taught him life lessons.
“Coach Allen [Williams] has molded me into a great guard,” Robinson said. “He’s always in the gym with me working on my shot which has improved tremendously. The environment is great and I’m honestly still changing people’s minds about Warehouse basketball.”
He’s been with the Warehouse Ballers since 6th grade when he started organized basketball. His father first trained him.
Robinson pointed to his biggest strengths as this.
-Defensive motor; wanting to guard the opponents best player.
-Decision making; knowing where my players are at all times.
-Quickness with or without the ball
-Will to win, doing whatever it takes to get the win.
-Motor; wanting to play the best of the best. Gym rat.
He wants to improve his outside shot, mid-range jumper, speed, stamina, ball handling and body language.
Even when Robinson isn’t playing an organized game, he’s out there watching basketball. He’s quickly transformed into a guy who simply loves hoops. Quick and elusive, that helps Robinson get to the rim with ease. He’ll be the focal point of the Packers’ once again this season and the rising senior should be able to capitalize on his improvements.
