Where Are They Now? (Part II)
Jaylan White (I-35): Iowa’s all-time steals leader went on to become a Division II point guard in South Dakota at the University of Mary. The 5-foot-10 speedster came in and made an immediate impact with the Marauders as a freshman, playing in all 28 games, averaging 10.2 minutes of action per contest. White averaged 2.6 points and just under one rebound and one assist in his limited role; considering many freshman never see the floor, his season could be considered a as substantial accomplishment for the former Interstate 35 standout.
Jake Velky (Waverly-Shell Rock): The Waverly-Shell Rock product is a teammate of former Valley guard Turner Scott at Truman State, and recently wrapped up his sophomore season with the Bulldogs. Velky — Iowa’s 20th-ranked 2015 — played and started in 29 games, and established himself as a D2 superstar, averaging a team-high 16.1 points per contest. In addition to his prolific scoring, Velky dished-out 1.7 assists and snared 3.9 rebounds per game. He’s been one of the most successful college players from the 2015 class.
Turner Scott (Valley): One of Iowa’s best point guards in recent history, Mr. Clutch Turner Scott led the Valley Tigers to a 4A state title in 2016 and then went on to sign with D2 Truman State in Missouri. Iowa’s 12th-ranked 2016, Scott decided to red-shirt during his first season with the Bulldogs, and will be back in live game action next season playing as a freshman point guard.
Erich Erdman (Forest City): The last time we saw Erdman was in the 2015 State Tournament, and we were blown away with his sharp handles and precision shooting. The Chargers got a steal when he decided to sign with them, and he went to work right away, earning GPAC Freshman of the Year honors during the 2015-16 season after averaging 11.1 points per game. As a sophomore, Erdman averaged 18.5 points per game on 50 percent shooting and 44 percent from deep (also 93% from the line), and led the Chargers to a No.11 ranking in the NAIA national poll. He would end up earning third-team all-american honors as a sophomore; during the next two seasons we could see Erdman garnering some seriously impressive accolades.
Isaiah Ross (Davenport West): What an exciting post-high school journey this Davenport West standout has had. Iowa’s 27th-ranked 2015 (likely too low) went to Phoenix the winter after he graduated, playing prep ball at Hillside Prep and earning a scholarship from D1 program Missouri-Kansas City in the process. Last season as a freshman with the Kangaroos, Ross played in 34 game and averaged 17.2 minutes per, averaging 8.0 points and 1.9 rebounds — not bad for a frosh. With still three seasons left to get acclimated to the speed of D1 hoops, Ross could be posting some big numbers in no time.
