Circle City Shootout: Stock Risers
This past weekend gave us a look at some players we hadn’t seen in a while and with AAU being such a different monster from the High School game, it gave us a different view as well. With that, we saw some players that really improved their standing with us. Here are the top stock risers from this past weekend.
2018 Prospects:
Jerod May – 6’0 | PG | Mississinewa (IN) | IE Orange 2018 – May is a guy we have known for quite a while but we were waiting on a few things. One was if he was going to grow and it looks like he has a bit and even filled out the frame a bit more. Also, was looking for more consistency on offense. He’s been skilled but every time we snuck a peak at him he was scoring the ball this weekend.
Trey Davis – 6’0 | PG | Plainfield (IN) | Northside Spartans 2018 – Trey was a guy we liked for a while but needed to just see him step up and be more dominant. The underlying skill set was always there and this weekend he had it all working with his jumper and driving ability. Has played his way into some college looks.
Jalan Mull – 6’0 | PG | Blackhawk Christian (IN) | OPS 2018 – Mull was good this high school season but he needed to keep it going and he looked elite as a passer this weekend. He’s a guy that could have just jumped into a DI player if he can keep it going. The body has developed and he knows his role. Would like to see a bit more offense but he’s a must watch.
2019 Prospects:
Mark Smith – 6’4 | SF | Zionsville (IN) | GP Premier 2019-Pace – Mark was always going to be a kid that you weren’t sure if he would ever figure it out. Well, he looks like he got the memo and was assertive and showed off a ton of skill. If this is going to be a thing, he’s going to be an interesting player at 6’4.
Nate Soltis – 6’5 | SF | Cardinal Ritter (IN) | IE Diesel 2019 – Soltis might be the biggest jump after this weekend. He’s a guy that kind of showed some athletic ability and toughness but not enough to really buy in. Well, he showed all of it this weekend. He was stellar at times and made some plays with his athleticism that were just impressive. Need more of that, much more.
Nathan Childress – 6’6 | SF | Zionsville (IN) | IE Metro 2019 – Watched Childress during the high school season but was always left wanting more. Good size and some skill but didn’t know where it was going to go from there. Well, this weekend he showed he was going to be the tough guy. Was really aggressive and with his skill, he was playing all over the court. Was super annoying if you had to defend him. The motor showed up and he looked great.
Logan Carter – 6’10 | C | Evansville Mater Dei (IN) | Pocket City 2019 – Logan had been getting great reports all high school season but we didn’t get to watch him. He looked the part this weekend. He’s 6’10 and 300 pounds but moves really, really well and has a motor that won’t stop. Hands are pretty good and he loved to be physical in the post. A little too much at one point but loved every second of it. With the motor, he’s a must recruit for a lot of local schools starting now.
2020 Prospects:
Gavin Dowling – 6’4 | C | Center Grove (IN) | GP Premier 2020-O’Connor – Watched Dowling this past fall but he’s was kind of just another guy at that point. He impressed a ton this weekend as he’s a bigger kid but moves really, really well and even has better handles than we thought the first time around. Has a little bit of a motor as well.
Matthew Jones – 6’6 | C | Lafayette Jefferson (IN) | IE Central 2020 – Jones looks like he has trimmed up a bit and even grown as well. He’s a big kid that still has a little more to do on the body but he’s made progress and he’s more physical than a year ago. If he can continue on that track and work on low post scoring, he could become a legit threat in this class.
