Adidas All-American Tournament Recap (Class of 2019 Guards/Wings)
Here is a look at some of the top guards and wings from last weekend’s Adidas All-American Tournament in St. Louis:
Point Guards/Combo Guards
Amorey Womack 6’0″ Missouri Impact 17U: One of the top scoring threats of the weekend, the Maplewood guard was a consistent bucket-getter while playing up at the 17U level. He used his strength to get tough baskets getting to the basket and he also knocked down mid-range jumpers and 3-pointers. Womack was hard to handle throughout the weekend.
Keyyaun Batchman 6’1″ Gateway: The physical point guard from Chaminade was the MVP of the 16U tournament after Gateway won the championship. He was a disruptive force on the defensive end all weekend with his strength and anticipation in getting into the passing lanes. Batchman helped create a lot of turnovers and converted a lot of transition buckets.
Malik Green 6’1″ Gateway Prep 15U: The guard from Mascoutah (IL) was a Co-MVP after leading his team to the 15U championship. He is a strong guard who had the ability to score in a lot of different ways. Turner was excellent in transition with several finishes on the break. He was also good on the bounce and he also knocked down a number of 3-pointers.
Lawrence Brazil 5’10” Gateway: The guard from CBC was the standout of the championship game with a team-high 17 points. Brazil really changed the tempo of the game with his speed and quickness on both ends. He displayed the ability play off the ball and score, including a pair of big 3-pointers to break open the championship game in the first half.
Trent Champagne 6’2″ T.E.M. Select: A nice combo guard from St. Charles West who could shoot, pass and handle the basketball from both backcourt spots. Trent has an excellent mid-range jumper where he gets to his spots and has excellent elevation. He also knocked down several 3-pointers over the weekend.
Evan Aslesen 5’11” Arsenal Hoops: The guard from DeSmet was one of the top shooters in the tournament in leading his team to the 16U championship game. Aslesen did an excellent job of shooting the basketball off the catch and coming off screens.
Derez Tipler 5’10” SEMO Bulls: The point guard from East Prairie plays the game at a fast tempo with his excellent speed and quickness. He is a pass-first point guard, but he has the ability to get buckets on the drive and from 3-point range. He also works hard as an on-ball defender.
Wings
Avery Taggert 6’3″ STL Express: A nice-sized wing player from Eureka who has developed into quite an offensive threat. His size and big body, combined with his ball handling skills, enables him to get where he wants to go on the court. He is a good shooter off the dribble and from 3-point range. Taggert was very comfortable with the ball in his hands as a playermaker.
Jeramy Shaw 6’4″ Gateway: One of the most athletic wing players in the tournament, the Valley Park athlete put on a show in the championship game with three dunks and several other explosive plays. Shaw displayed the athleticism and skill set to play all three positions on the perimeter> He also has the ability to be a top defender.
Elijah Hicks 6’2″ Arsenal Hoops: A physical wing player from North Tech who was a tough matchup because of his big strong body and overall skill set. He had the ability to play multiple positions. Hicks displayed nice handles throughout the weekend, especially in the open court. He had a good jumper off the dribble and he could finish in traffic.
