Adidas All-American Tournament Recap (Class of 2018 Forwards)
Here is a look at some of the top forwards from last weekend’s Adidas All-American Tournament in St. Louis
Jamarr Williams 6’6″ Gateway: The power forward from Northwest Academy is a tenacious rebounder who owned the offensive boards throughout the tournament. He grabbed a minimum of six offensive rebounds in every game he played in and that’s being conservative. He was always around the basketball. Just an uncanny knack. Williams also did a nice job defensively as a shot blocker.
Cameron Hester 6’7″ SEMO Storm: The power forward from Jackson who had a strong weekend around the basket. He is a physical performer who knows how to post up and hold his position inside. He wasn’t going to be moved. Hester did a nice job of scoring around the basket with both hands. He even threw down some dunks in traffic for good measure.
Leon Perry 6’6″ Showtime Elite: A very talented combo forward from Confluence Academy, Perry had a nice tournament on both ends of the court. He was the top shot blocker in the tournament with his length, athleticism and timing. Perry is also a very capable offensive player around the basket with his ability to score in the paint and his emerging perimeter game. An excellent offensive rebounder.
Pete Lake 6’7″ SEMO Storm: The combo forward from Jackson is one of the most versatile players in the tournament. He is a matchup problem with his size and skill set on the perimeter. Lake can knock down 3-pointers and he showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and knock down mid range jumpers. He is also a good athlete who plays well in transition.
Tyler Joest 6’8″ Gateway Prep (IL): The long, lanky forward from Breese Central (IL) looks every bit the part of a Stretch 4. He has the size and the length combined with his ability to shoot the ball from 3-point range. Joest is also a mobile big who can get out and run on the break. He had one very impressive transition dunk in which he literally threw the ball down on top of a defender’s head. He also did a nice job on the boards.
Zach Harding 6’6″ Jets-Ramey United: I liked what I saw from this versatile forward from O’Fallon-Christian. He has an excellent mid-range jumper, whether it is on the catch or the bounce. He has some solid moves in the post and he can also step out and knock down the 3-pointer. Zach is also a pretty good athlete who will dunk on you. Has a nice turnaround jumper.
Luke Lowenstein 6’5″ T.E.M Select: A low post performer from Duchesne who is a very effective scorer in the lane. He has a big body and he uses it well to post up and create space and position. He uses pump fakes and other crafty moves to score around the basket. Luke can also step out and knock down a jumper from the high post.
Kyle Noah 6’4″ Arch Ryvals: The athletic forward from Hazelwood East is an explosive performer who spent much of the weekend playing above the rim. He was able to score in traffic by just going over the top of bigger defenders. Noah was also one of the top dunkers in the tournament. He rebounded well and scored on a lot of rim runs.
Collin Braun 6’7″ Nets: The forward from Vianney is pencil thin, but he is a very effective player. He plays hard and he is constantly moving, which makes up for his slight build. He can score around the basket and he is an effective shot blocker with his length.
Dawson Dohogne 6’4″ SEMO Storm: An undersized post player from Cape Notre Dame who knows how to operate around the low post. He is very good at sealing his man and finishing around the basket and different angles. He is also a good interior passer. Dawson has also developed a nice jumper from the high post and even attempted a few 3-pointers.
