Unsigned Senior: Davis Phillips (2017)
College programs looking for a 6-foot-5 wing who is athletic and can score the basketball, should look at TC Roberson High School senior Davis Phillips. The senior wing averaged around 12 points and 7 rebounds this past season for the Rams.
Davis has the ability to block shots and play above the rim while also showcasing a knack for knocking down big shots. He is has a big enough frame to absorb contact when going for rebounds and attacking the basket.
While Davis may be more of a Division Two prospect, I can see him making a case for a Division One program and being a very good four-year player. At the college level, Davis will be a solid rebounder on both ends of the floor. At his size and with his athleticism he can defend multiple positions on the floor. At 6-foot-5 he will be able to play at the three or four spot in college and even some of the two-guard spot. He can knock down the mid-range jump shot and can even step outside and knock down the three-point shot when called upon.
One characteristic that is lacking in today’s game is talking and being vocal. Davis has that leadership quality and is very vocal on the floor. He is very coachable and takes in everything a coach may be telling him to do. He was named to the Mountain Athletic Conference team his senior and sophomore seasons and was selected to the Blue & White All-Star Game this season.
Colleges that have expressed interest in Davis are Anderson University, Brevard College and Catawba Valley Community College.
