Then they scored 24 points in the third quarter alone and it was all over. Manchester’s wild ride continues after knocking off Lewis Cass and now beating Rochester pretty easily, they get a chance to win a Sectional Championship on Saturday night.
MVP: Mason Hamby (Manchester)
From the jump, this was Hamby’s game and he wasn’t going to let Manchester lose. He finished with 19 points and controlled the pace of the game, all game. He’s aggressiveness was great and it really put Manchester in a position early on to keep Rochester on their heels. Rochester didn’t want to press too much because of turnovers.
Play of the Game: David McAtee (Manchester)
The best play of the game came in the first half as a ball was going out of bounds near halfcourt and McAtee went chasing it down and was able to make a big time save. Then, only a couple seconds later, he was able to rocket a pass across the court to his teammate that ended with a wide open corner three. It was an impressive performance.
Best Offensive Performance: Mason Hamby (Manchester)
Hamby is the early pick here. His 19 points was the most in the game by a lot and he did it on 8/12 shooting, 1/2 from distance and 2/2 from the free throw line. He did a lot of his work at the rim, driving and being aggressive. He’s just tall enough that opposing guards have some trouble hitting him on the way to the rim and he just made everything work tonight.
Best Defensive Performance: David McAtee (Manchester)
Outside of Hamby, McAtee had the best performance and McAtee was better on the defensive end. He was great in this one grabbing 4 rebounds and creating 5 steals. He pressed and pressed Rochester’s guards and got to the point where they couldn’t do anything. To stop him. He’s not the tallest kid but he’
Best Guy Off The Bench: Kamdyn Lester (Manchester)
Manchester seemed to have so many players making plays. They had three guys in double figures and Lest was the one guy that did it from the bench. He scored 11 points on 5/8 shooting. He also grabbed three rebounds. For bench players, efficiency is huge and he did just that and was able to impact the game.
Best Intangibles: Mason Hamby (Manchester)
Not that there weren’t others in this game but Hamby was so good and doing everything. Doing everything with his energy and really impacting the defense, the boards, and the scoring. He gave Manchester so much in this game that it is hard to ignore. If not for his early pressure and scoring, Rochester would have had the chance to be in this game.
Best Under-The-Radar Performance: Austin Utter (Rochester)
For Rochester, they just struggled to keep the ball in their hands and keep pace. However, Utter was one that did his job and was right in the middle of big plays. He only had 1 turnover and scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. His long, lanky frame was able to make a little bit of an impact in this one.
Best Underclassmen: Brady Perez (Rochester)
While this wasn’t Rochester’s best game of the season, Perez showed enough for us to track him moving forward. He’s a tall guard with a solid ability to handle the ball and create. Best in this game in the open floor and can finish decently at the rim. The 6’2 guard is assertive when on the floor and
Best Player College Coaches Should Track: Jordan Reinholt (Rochester)
Best Storyline Moving Forward: Manchester, with the win, moves to 8-16 on the season and will look to play the winner of Oak Hill and Southwood. Manchester is 0-3 against both teams during the regular season, losing two to Southwood. So far, Manchester is one of the worst teams still left in the tournament and are playing really well. It will be tough to stay in the game but it has to be encouraging that they are playing their best ball.
