Mid Missouri Available Guards (2017)
Here is a look at some of the top unsigned Class of 2017 guards in Mid Missouri:
Chase Thomas 5’10” Hickman: An excellent scoring point guard, Thomas was fully capable of getting buckets and facilitating the offense for the Kewpies. He can get to the basket off the dribble and knock down 3-pointers, as shown by his 32 point performance in the last game of his career against Battle in the district playoffs.
Isaiah Wilson 6’0″ Father Tolton: He did a great job of carrying the scoring load for a young team this season in averaging 23 points a game. Wilson is very good at creating his own shot off the dribble, either for mid-range jumpers or 3-pointers. He also averaged four assists a game. He is getting offers from Division II schools.
Kamari Balton 6’1″ Jefferson City: One of the best two-way guards in Mid-Missouri, Balton was capable of having dominant performances on both ends of the floor. He is at his best when he is attacking the basket and finishing through contact. His ability to shoot the ball makes him that much more difficult to guard. Balton also has quick hands and a desire to make plays on the defensive end.
Riley Lang 6’4″ Boonville: An excellent wing player who finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer. He is a tremendous 3-point shooter who does an excellent job off the catch and working off screens with a quick release. His size gives him a good advantage over smaller guards on the perimeter. He also developed a solid game off the drive during his senior year.
Maguire Scheer 5’10” Southern Boone: A small shooting guard who can really fill it up from downtown when he is on his game. He scored 52 points in a single game this season, including nine 3-pointers. Scheer is a solid ball handler who can make shots and get to the basket off the dribble. He is a nice Division III prospect.
Drew Apsher 6’0″ Smithton: A nice combo guard who finished his career with more than 2,000 points and the school’s scoring record. He is an excellent perimeter shooter who moves well without the basketball. Apsher has received interest from smaller schools such as Bellevue (NE), William Woods and Grinnell.
Steven Brandt 6’2″ Fatima: A good size shooting guard who plays the game hard and with a lot of drive. He can knock shots down from 3-point range, but when the perimeter shots aren’t falling, he can get buckets by driving to the basket. He is an excellent athlete who had more than a few slam dunks in transition.
