Although the season didn’t end up how he had planned, it was another impressive year for Cape Fear Unsigned Senior Guard A.J Baldwin. During his junior season he would finish the season leading all Cumberland County public schools in points and assist. This season he would get a later start on the season as he was a key player for the football team that would make it all the way to the State Championship game. Even though he would start the season late he wouldn’t waste much time in getting going as he would put together some very impressive performance including a 40+ point effort in the Holiday Classic Championship game. This season he would once again finish the regular season as the Cumberland County public schools leader in scoring, averaging 21 Points per game as well as leading in assist with 6.4 per game. With his impressive plays it’s been a bit of a surprise to me that his recruitment hasn’t been more active but he has received interest from Mount Olive and Western Carolina has dropped in to see him play.
What can he bring to a college program?
Scoring, Competitiveness, athleticism and outstanding passing ability are some of the traits that stand out to me about this young man’s game. He knows how to score the ball well and can get into the paint at a very high rate with a low amount of dribbling. Also you have to love his ability to be able to make play on both ends of the floor above the rim, it’s always impressive to see a guard that can block shots at such a high rate. Last but not least is his ability to facilitate, many times guards that can score the ball will struggle with making plays for others. This isn’t the problem for A.J, he should do well moving into the PG spot at the next level for whatever program that is fortunate enough to get him.
