OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Round 2 of the Best of the Midwest Showcase featured numerous high-level performers from some of the top teams from Kansas and Missouri.
Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the top prospects and performances from the six-game event.
Bryan Blanks, 6’0, 2017, Raytown
He is a quick, hard-nosed point guard that is tough off the bounce and can really get in the paint and create shots from his teammates. On Saturday he impressed with several dump down passes as he drew defenders and dropped the ball off for easy buckets.
Reggie Crawford, 6’4, 2017, Chaminade
The most experienced player in the Chaminade line-up, Crawford is a standout 3-point shooter who has been a three-year varsity starter for the Red Devils. He has good size and brings toughness to the court. He has committed to play football at South Dakota.
Jacob Gilyard, 5’9, 2017, Barstow
One of the state’s premier point guards who is in the running for the KC area Player of the Year honors, Gilyard is an elite defender with the ability to get to the bucket, especially in the open floor. He has committed to play at Richmond.
Jalen Lewis, 5’10, 2018, Liberty
He’s quick as a cat and is tough getting all the way to the bucket. Also showed the ability to lead a team, but of course, he has become known for his ability to shoot the 3. Has a really quick release and can shoot it from anywhere, including off the dribble.
Courtney Ramey, 6’4, 2018, Webster Groves
He’s the closest thing you’ll see at the high school level to John Wall. Brings elite speed and quickness and combines it with size and length and the ability to play above the rim. Not only impressed with his court vision and point guard skills, but also had a game-high nine rebounds in a win over Iowa City West. Has committed to Louisville.
Jadis White, 6’1, 2018, Chaminade
Kid was tough against Blue Valley Northwest and hit some huge shots down the stretch. Has some size at 6’1 and showed the ability to get to the bucket and create off the bounce. If he continues to play like he did at the Best of the Midwest the Red Devils might be a Class 5 favorite.
