The 6’3″ Ramey is the top-ranked guard in the state of Missouri’s Class of 2018 and one of the best in the country. He chose the Cardinals over Florida, Creighton and Kansas State.
Hall of Fame head coach Rick Pitino of Louisville really took an active role in Ramey’s recruitment. He visited Ramey at open gym workouts in the fall. He came to see him at the Webster Groves Classic in early December. Last week, Pitino brought his entire staff to St. Louis to watch Ramey play against SLUH in a big nonconference showdown.
“I felt like Coach Pitino had the best relationship with me,” Ramey said. “I love how he develops his players. He trusts his players and makes them better. He gives his guards a lot of freedom.”
Ramey had received more than two dozen offers from major Division I schools around the country. His national profile really elevated after a tremendous summer grassroots season, which began at the NBA Player Development Camp in Virginia. That was was when the offers started to come fast and furious, which made for some hectic times for Ramey and his family.
“For the past couple of months, I talked about it with my dad, and he told me when you’re comfortable, go ahead and make your decision,” Ramey said. “I told him that I was comfortable. Now, I’m free.”
Ramey is currently averaging 20.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals in leading the Statesmen to a 14-2 record this season. Webster Groves will meet Chicago Morgan Park in a highly-anticipated showdown at the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout tonight in Illinois.
