“The season has gone alright this year,” Steckler explained. “We have been doing good things. We are a very talented and dangerous team. Anyone can win in the WDA at any given time.”
Mandan pulled off the Century upset at the end of January and Trae feels they can play with anybody. Next week Mandan opens with Century at the start of March Madness in North Dakota.
“The WDA tournament is looking pretty good for us,” Steckler stated. “We are looking at making a state tournament run this year.
“In the WDA anyone can win and when I look at it the team that’s playing the best during tournament time is the team that’s going to go the farthest.”
Steckler is giving his team 21.3 points and 9.2 rebounds a game shooting a fantastic 62 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the foul line.
“My game has grown by extending my shot to the perimeter and by attacking the hoop,” Trae said. “I can also play well on the block as well.
“I always try and get every rebound as those are crucial points to the game. On the defensive end I have been working on keeping people in front of me and not letting them slide past me. I also have been working on getting into help defense as well.”
Steckler is a multiple sport standout who isn’t thinking about college hoops much yet but has heard from schools.
“I have had contact with college hoop coaches as well!”
