“I was blessed to receive a scholarship to Northern State University to play football,” Vomacka said. “As far as a major, I am completely undecided. But I am very excited to get up there and continue my football career as well as my education and meeting new people.”
Before he leaves to play for the Wolves there is still some unfinished business left in his final season on the hardwood. The team is 4-8 but still the second best team in District 12.
They will have to beat Colome to get out of the District and they lost to them 55-40 earlier in the year. Gregory three of their last four though.
“We had a rough start to the season,” Robert said. “We have had one of the tougher schedules that I’ve ever been a part of in my seven years playing for GHS but we don’t use that as an excuse.
“Playing some top teams in the state (Chamberlain, Colome, MVP, Lower Brule, and Winner) has forced us to play at a higher level that we might not have otherwise known we had.”
Robert has given Gregory High a strong 17.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
“Personally I have undertaken a new role on our team at the point guard spot,” Robert said. “I have played this in the past but never was a true point guard. As a team we have struggled with injuries and hope to keep improving as we get guys back.
“My game has grown in the fact that it has slowed down for me so much. Not only has this improved my performance, but that of my teammates, too. With very little varsity experience on my team, I’m able to teach them how to see the game and make it slow down for them.
“Also, my mid-range and 3 point shooting has been improved. Which helps open things up to take it to the hoop more.”
