Lang had his sights set on the school’s career scoring record. Lang’s goal became a reality on Jan. 27 when he scored 27 points in a 65-49 victory over
“It was a huge accomplishment,” Lang said. “That was one of my goals when I came to high school. I have to give credit to all of my teammates over the years. Every single one of them has made me better.”
Throughout his four years at Boonville, the 6’4″ Lang has evolved from a one-dimensional perimeter shooter into one of the top all-around scorers in Mid-Missouri. As a senior, he has put together an excellent all-around season, averaging 24.3 points, six rebounds and two assists while shooting 48 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line.
Lang has enjoyed some impressive offensive eruptions during his senior season. He had 38-point outings in victories over O’Hara and Hannibal in the past month.
“My freshman and sophomore years, I relied on the jump shot a lot,” Lang said. “Now, I’ve become more of a driver who can get to the rim. I’ve also been able to get to the free throw line, which has allowed me to score a little more.”
Lang hasn’t received any college offers as of yet, but he has received interest from schools such as Central Methodist, Greenville (IL) and the University of Chicago. As he tries to build up his profile for potential colleges, his current order of business is to try to lead the Pirates to their third consecutive district championship.
“We want to three-peat as district champions,” Lang said. “Two years ago, our school won their first district championship in 33 years. We would like to get back to sectionals.”
