The 6’1” combo guard adds a level of intensity, energy, and outside shooting to this Wayne team. Wayne is currently 10-11 with a final regular season game against Richmond tomorrow night and a bye in the first round of sectionals.
Dial has been a consistent scorer this season from all levels. He has greatly improved his three-point shooting ability while using his athleticism to attack the rim. Demarea can finish above the rim with some of the best in the SAC.
“I think we play well together as a team. You won’t see us arguing on the court.” Wayne is a team that has good chemistry but needs to clean up a few things as they look to make an impact in the postseason.
Wayne has played well against some tough opponents this season, including a 3-point loss to Homestead in the SAC Tournament. Wayne could see Homestead in their first sectional game in the second round.
“I think I bring a lot of energy and defense to this team.” Demarea takes pride in guarding the opposing team’s best player on a nightly basis. His high energy and defensive effort have set a precedence on this team for defending their basket.
Not only is he an integral part to their defensive tendencies, he is also someone who can break off a 20-point game in a hurry. He has become the most consistent three-point shooter for the Generals which has opened-up lanes for him to get to the basket on a nightly basis as well.
Demarea is a good finisher in traffic and is a good offensive rebounder for the guard position as well. His passing is a skill set that he is developing as he learns how to get into openings in the defense. As he learns when to find the open man, he will be one of the better guards in the SAC in the coming years.
Dial understands that his progress doesn’t stop when the season is over. He wants to continue improving at a high rate in the off season as he will be a primary ball handler and scorer for the Generals next season. “I feel like I need to improve my ball handling moving forward.” Demarea understands how his role for this team is going to grow and expand in the coming years and he is ready for the challenges ahead.
When it comes to the next level, Dial knows what it’s going to take. “The thought of playing at the next level is exciting to me. It will be a lot of hard work and dedication but I’m ready.”
Demarea also wants a team that can get everyone involved and contributing. “Knowing how to get your team involved while getting yours is the style of basketball I like.”
Keep an eye on the Wayne Generals in the coming week as they look to shock some people in their sectional and Dial will be a crucial piece for the team to do so.
