North Dakota Playoff Central. There were so many District title contests matching top teams that breaking them down is hard, tough to know where to start! Shiloh Christian avenging their loss to Solen from earlier in the month is a good place. Big Macauley Young dominated the paint for Shiloh grabbing 18 boards and scoring 23 points on 11 of 13 shooting. Nick Pfaff and Jonas Mitzel combined for 27 point including seven threes. Montel Carlow was fantastic for Solen shooting 9 of 11 and making six three for his 24 points but District Player of the Year Brayden Uses Arrow had a tough night shooting against the Skyhawk defense so Shiloh won this battle.
Undefeated St. John stayed that way getting by North Star 59-56….Stanley is riding some momentum lately winning the District 16 Tournament with a 64-62 victory over Kenmare….Another big game winner was Our Redeemer over Bishop Ryan 49-44 and Four Winds/Minnewaukan won over Harvey/Wells County 78-50….
Walking Proud in the Halls Today. I would start win Brennen Vance who scored with 19 and teamed with fellow senior Luke Wertz to lead Ellendale over Carrington to win district 5. Vance was also named Senior Athlete of the Year in the District ……Next opponent will be Kidder County who survived MPB by three moving them on to Regions. Senior Brighton Fallgatter scored 23 helping the Pirates keep their season going…Parshall took care of business over Trinity Christian in District 15. Senior Jelani Foote had a huge night making five threes to score his game high 20 points…Another big night for DJ LeBeau Jr who scored 28 for New Town….Junior center Hart Andes of North Shore, 6-foot-5, had 30 points in the loss to Watford City….
The Big Stage. NDSCS is the place to be tonight for multiple games. The Region 1 tournament is there tonight with five games being played. The top three seeds received byes with Milnor/North Sargent and Wundmere/Lidgerwood being the top teams competing tonight in 4/13 and 5/12 games. The 8/9 game is Maple Valley vs Central Cass.
Game of the Night. There are three EDC games that are tough to choose from. West Fargo should handle Fargo North in the 2/7 game but you never know what Fargo North is going to do as they just took Shanley to overtime.
Devils Lake and GFRR is huge because one of them is likely to miss out on state. A loss here would be quite damaging. GFRR has lost five of seven including a two point game to Devils Lake. Devils Lake won the previous two match-ups which is a big reason they have the higher seed.
Then you have Shanley against Sheyenne. Shanley won the first contest in overtime but lost the second by eight. Shanley has won four coming in. This game could be close wire to wire and may be the most exciting contest of the night.
Upset City. Not much to say for upsets last night as most of the games were won by who was expected to win, or won by a team that was very close to the other. Stanley over Kenmare was likely a small upset.
Tonight? Doubt there will be an upset but I would say that Fargo South is a little bit better of a team than people know. They are 10-12 right now having won four in a row (beating GFRR and Fargo North recently) plus they have won seven of nine overall. Davies hammered South 84-39 and 92-58 in the previous games. Those were before the South improvements. I believe Davies will still win by double figures but South isn’t the walkover they were earlier in the year I don’t believe.
