Charleston (24-5) vs. Saxony Lutheran (25-3) at Dexter: These two teams met in the district finals a year ago with Charleston staging an epic comeback from a 19-point deficit to take the victory. Most of the players from both teams are back for the rematch. Saxony has a veteran unit with excellent big guards William Rogers and Corie Williams leading the way. Charleston is junior-dominated with the excellent 2018 duo of 6’4″ forward Mardareyon Clark and 6’2″ guard Demarcus Share in the lead. (Prediction: Charleston)
Park Hills Central (21-8) vs. Whitfield (19-8) at Jefferson College: Whitfield was a Final Four participant last year and it hopes to return behind the play of brilliant 6’5″ 2018 guard Torrence Watson. Help on the inside comes from 6’4″ 2019s Luther Taylor and Cyrus Alexander. Park Hills Central will try to compete with its 3-point shooting prowess, led by 6’2″ 2017 guard Brandon Wagner and 5’11” 2018 guard Wade Schifferius.(Prediction: Whitfield)
Cole Camp (22-6) vs. Hogan Prep (21-7) at Harrisonville: Hogan Prep ended Barstow’s run of three consecutive Final Four appearances with an 81-62 victory in the district finals. Dynamic 2018 guard Damien Daniels leads a small, yet electric group at Hogan, which averaged 90 points a game in the district tournament. (Prediction: Hogan Prep)
Lawson (25-2) vs. Maryville (23-4) at Excelsior Springs: – In an earlier meeting this year, Lawson captured a 41-38 low scoring affair on a last-second 3-pointer. Lawson features one of the top talents in Northwest Missouri in 2017 guard Cody Lawson, who averages close to 30 points a game. Maryville has a well-balanced team. Forward Eli Dowis scored a game-high 21 points in the Spoofhounds victory over Penney in the district finals. (Prediction: Lawson).
Cardinal Ritter (20-6) vs. Northwest Academy (17-10) at St. Charles West: A big matchup with two teams capable of winning the whole thing. Both teams feature a stable of guards surrounding an excellent 6’6″ forward. Ritter is led by 5’10” 2019 Malek Davis, 5’9″ 2018 guard Gerald Phillips and 6’6″ 2017 forward Xavier Womack. Northwest has a top point guard in 5’8″ 2017 Ryan Warren, an athletic wing in 6’2″ 2018 Wilshon Warren and a double-double machine in 6’6″ 2018 forward Jamarr Williams. The pace will be fast and furious. Buckle up. (Prediction: Cardinal Ritter)
Montgomery County (26-2) vs. Monroe City (24-3) at Moberly Area Community College: A very good matchup with two solid teams that can score. Montgomery County is led by 6’4″ 2017 forward Chase Parrish, who has surpassed 2,000 points in his career. 2018 guard Aubrey Nelson can create shots and get buckets. Monroe City is led by 6’1″ 2019 guard CE Talton, who is a fine talent. The Panthers are athletic and tough. (Prediction: Monroe City)
Southern Boone (25-3) vs. Mountain Grove (26-2) at Missouri S&T: One of the top sectional matchups in the state goes down in Rolla tonight. Southern Boone is small, but they have an experienced group of good guards and a matchup problem in 6’1″ 2019 forward Sam Stichnote. Mountain Grove finished third in the state tournament a year ago and it looks strong again with a lineup with several players who can put the ball in the basket. (Prediction: Mountain Grove)
Fair Grove (23-5) vs. Lamar (22-4) at Willard: Fair Grove features one of the state’s top perimeter threats in 6’3″ 2017 guard Garrett Kesterson and a good post player in 6’7″ 2017 Evan Fullerton. Lamar is showing that they are not just a football school. 2017 forward Sam Timmons has been excellent all season. (Prediction: Fair Grove)
