4A Defensive Teams:
It’s no surprise that Warsaw again tops the list of 4A’s top defensive teams. They have constantly built a winning program around keeping the scoring low and pushing through for wins. Huntington North is a bit of a surprise as they have some offense to their game. Bloomington South is such a well coached team and has so much depth in an area where there isn’t a ton of talent. They have really turned up the heat in the second half of the season with many games under 40 points allowed.
- Warsaw – 42.57 ppg
- Huntington North – 43.54 ppg
- Bloomington South – 43.65 ppg
3A Defensive Teams:
Angola is doing it again this year with their defense. Now, their schedule isn’t the toughest by any means but still, averaging only 39 points allowed for every game of the season is crazy. They even had multiple games holding teams under 20 points. Heritage is doing the same thing up north. Tipton is a bit of a surprise to be up this high but their schedule hasn’t been as tough the last couple years and they are a pretty well disciplined group.
- Angola – 39.22 ppg
- Heritage – 40.00 ppg
- Tipton – 41.14 ppg
2A Defensive Teams:
No surprise at all that South Knox and Barr-Reeve are two of the top defensive teams in the entire state. That part of the state doesn’t like to give up points and it is pretty slowed down but when both teams need it, they can score it pretty well. Shenandoah on the other hand, is surprising because they typically play a tougher schedule with some teams that like to run. However, they held Lapel to 38 points and Northeastern to 35. That is really tough to do.
- South Knox – 39.65 ppg
- Barr-Reeve – 41.09 ppg
- Shenandoah – 41.14 ppg
1A Defensive Teams:
Oldenburg Academy is one of the more dominant teams in the state this season and they are doing a lot of that because of their defense. They are tops in defense only allowing 37.2 points per game. South Newton was really bad for a really long time. Now, the past three seasons has been about building up their young core and they are getting better and better defensively. Triton gave up a lot of points in their first three games and ever since that point, they haven’t given up more than 50 points.
- Oldenburg Academy – 37.22 ppg
- South Newton – 39.22 ppg
- Triton – 41.86 ppg
