Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 13: Franklin Central (Host): Center Grove, Franklin Central, Franklin Community, Greenwood Community, Martinsville, Whiteland Community.
Breakdown: In Sectional 13, you have a fairly open grouping of teams. Center Grove has done well this season and they get the bye game but their likely opponent will be Whiteland, a team that has beaten them twice this season already. On the top half of the bracket, you have Greenwood who could make some noise this tournament against Franklin Central, who isn’t as crisp as they usually are. The winner of that game would get a solid but young Franklin team in the Semifinal. Look for it to be a Greenwood vs. Center Grove matchup in the Championship game. That Center Grove/Whiteland matchup is the one of to watch, though.
Sectional 14: Bloomington North (Host): Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Columbus East, Columbus North, East Central, Shelbyville.
Breakdown: In Sectional 14, Bloomington South will once again be the favorite as they are in most seasons but this is a fairly strong set of teams. Columbus North has played really well down the stretch and will get first crack at South. Those two have played twice this season already and South won by 7 both times. The winner of that game will get a really solid Bloomington North team. On the top half of the bracket, look for the winner of the Columbus East/Shelbyville game to have a great chance to get past East Central and end up in the Championship game. Bloomington South will be the team to beat but their path isn’t as easy as it has been in years past.
Sectional 15: Seymour (Host): Bedford North Lawrence, Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, Jennings County, New Albany, Seymour.
Breakdown: In Sectional 15, you have the defending 4A Champion in New Albany. They are still very, very good and will be the easy pick for this Sectional. However, teams will be gunning for them. They have an easier road in the first two games they would play and would only have to face one of Jeffersonville and Floyd Central in the Sectional Championship. Floyd Central got the bye and Jeffersonville shouldn’t have any problems getting past Seymour. Maybe the most interesting game of the Sectional would be the Floyd Central vs. Jeffersonville game.
Sectional 16: Evansville North (Host): Castle, Evansville Central, Evansville F.J. Reitz, Evansville Harrison, Evansville North.
Breakdown: In Sectional 16, look for Castle to be the easy winner and possibly darkhorse heading into the tournament. They are built about as well as you can to be able to handle any numbers of styles and teams. Evansville North and Central will play the only first round game and the winner would then face Castle which won’t be easy. On the opposite side of the bracket, look for a great game between Harrison and Reitz. The two teams have split their two games already this season so this could be a fun one.
