On Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 25: Greencastle (Host) Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Greencastle, Lebanon, North Montgomery, Tri-West Hendricks, Western Boone.
Breakdown: In Sectional 25, you have another one of the hottest teams in the state in Tri-West. Losing Peyton Hendershot for an undetermined amount of time will be a big question mark for their long term success but in the short term, Tyler Watson has been putting up some ridiculous numbers and they are still the best team by far. The two other programs to watch out for are Lebanon and Crawfordsville. Tri-West does get the bye game and would face Crawfordsville first if they advance. Lebanon should have the easy advantage on the top half of the bracket and they are the only Sectional opponent to beat Tri-West this season.
Sectional 26: Edgewood (Host): Brown County, Edgewood, Northview, Owen Valley, Sullivan, West Vigo.
Breakdown: In Sectional 26, look for an Edgewood vs. Northview rematch in the Sectional Championship. Four of the six teams in the Sectional have double-digit wins but Northview’s 7-1 record is the best against Sectional opponents with their only loss coming to Edgewood. West Vigo has been pretty hot down the stretch and could pull an upset or two so be watching them in March.
Sectional 27: Brebeuf Jesuit (Host): Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, Herron, Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, Indianapolis Crispus Attucks, Indianapolis Emmerich Manual, Indianapolis Marshall, New Palestine.
Breakdown: In Sectional 27, you have one of the more lopsided Sectionals in the entire state as Brebeuf Jesuit, Manual, and Crispus Attucks all on the bottom half of the bracket. Brebeuf and Manual open up play on Tuesday night and the winner will face Crispus Attucks in the semifinal as they drew winless Indianapolis Herron in the first round. Look for New Palestine to be the most likely opponent to make through on the top half of the bracket. However, the defacto Sectional Championship will be between Crispus and either Brebeuf Jesuit or Manual on Friday night.
Sectional 28: Danville Community (Host): Beech Grove, Danville Community, Indian Creek, Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter, Indianapolis George Washington, Indianapolis Northwest, Park Tudor.
Breakdown: In Sectional 28, you have a fairly lackluster Sectional but the opening game on Tuesday night between Danville and Park Tudor looks to be the best game on paper heading into next week. They are the best two teams by a wide margin and should have a fairly easy road past this game. However, Indian Creek, Cardinal Ritter, and Beech Grove are all solid and will be trying to meet up with one of them in the Sectional Championship.
