Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 57: White River Valley (Host): Bloomfield, Clay City, Eminence, North Central (Farmersburg), Shakamak, White River Valley.
Breakdown: In Sectional 57, you have to go in liking Shakamak with the way their season has gone. They will face the winner of Bloomfield and Clay City. Bloomfield made a run last year and have some guys still on the roster so they understand what is ahead of them. On the opposite side, Eminence gets the bye game with White River Valley likely to be their matchup. Shakamak, however, is already 7-0 against their Sectional opponents this year and that is tough to ignore.
Sectional 58: University (Host): Bethesda Christian, Indiana School for the Deaf, Indiana Math & Science, International, Tindley, University.
Breakdown: In Sectional 58, you have one of the toughest Sectionals in the state and in 1A, it is the top one. Bethesda, University, Indiana Math & Science, and Tindley have all done really well this season. Tindley is the favorite and University might be the next in line, however, they are paired up in the first round. Look for the winner of that game to have the upper hand with Bethesda on the opposite side of the bracket making the biggest impact on that outcome.
Sectional 59: Edinburgh (Host): Central Christian Academy, Edinburgh, Greenwood Christian Academy, Indianapolis Arlington, Indianapolis Lutheran, Morristown.
Breakdown: In Sectional 59, this could be one of the most up-in-the-air Sectionals in 1A. With Central Christian and Arlington matched up in the first game, you have a pick ‘em situation. Morristown on the top half of the bracket has an easier route to the Sectional Championship game but their biggest competition will come in that game. Arlington just beat them a game or two ago and Central Christian isn’t a slouch either if they make it. Any of those three schools could walk away with a Championship.
Sectional 60: South Decatur (Host): Hauser, Jac-Cen-Del, Oldenburg Academy, Rising Sun, South Decatur, Southwestern (Shelbyville), Waldron.
Breakdown: In Sectional 60, Oldenburg got a really nice draw and looks poised to have a decent run this March. They should have no issues with Rising Sun and either Jac-Cen-Del or South Decatur. Waldron, Southwestern, and Hauser are fairly evenly matched on the other side and that will be where the competition will come from. These teams have all played each other a ton this season and there is a ton of parity. Oldenburg should be the favorite.
