Park Hills Central got out of the gate quickly as it raced out to a 14-3 lead. After a quick timeout and a couple of substitutions, the host Eagles responded with a 16-0 run to take a 19-14 lead. Sullivan never trailed again as they went on to take a 76-67 victory in an entertaining game in which both teams made liberal use of the 3-pointer. The two teams combined to make a total of 19 3-pointers.

Now, it’s on to the best of the evening:
MVP: Jared Woodcock (Sullivan) – The 6’3″ 2017 forward scored a team-high 22 points to lead the Eagles to the victory. In a game full of 3-point shooting, Woodcock did most of his damage in the paint as he scored almost at will on post ups and drives to the basket. He controlled the action in the lane with his strength and nice shooting touch off the glass.
Best Offensive Player: Wade Scherffius (Park Hills Central) – The 6’0″ 2018 guard scored a game-high 29 point, most of which came on his seven 3-pointers. Scherffius is one who loves to drive to the basket, but he found the perimeter more to his liking on this evening. He kept the Rebels competitive each time Sullivan tried to pull away.
Best Defensive Player: Cody McKinney (Sullivan) – The 5’11” 2019 point guard was assigned the duty of guarding Park Hills Central standout Brandon Wagner, who scored 52 points in a game last week. McKinney did an excellent job of staying connected to Wagner and rarely get a open look at the basket. Wagner finished with 12 points and had to work hard for all of them, thanks to McKinney’s defensive efforts.
Best Shooter: Wade Scherffius (Park Hills Central) – The 6’0″ 2018 guard knocked down a total of seven 3-pointers with most of them coming off the dribble. He was letting them fly from everywhere.
Best Young Prospect (2019, 2020): Breven McMullen (Park Hills Central) – The 6’3″ 2020 forward finished with 10 points. He knocked down a couple of 3-pointers off the pick and pop and also scored on a couple of drives to the basket. The young forward is an ideal Stretch 4 in high school basketball.
Best Bench Player: Caleb Todd (Sullivan) – When Sullivan fell behind 14-3 early, the 5’11” 2018 guard entered the game and promptly knocked down three consecutive 3-pointers to draw the Eagles to 14-12. It was the beginning of a 16-0 run that enabled the Eagles to take control of the game. Todd finished with 15 points and made four 3-pointers.
Best Unsung Player: Caleb Stack (Sullivan) – The 6’4″ 2017 forward finished the game with 12 points. He did a nice job of scoring in the paint and grabbing rebounds in a quiet, yet very effective manner.
Key Stretch of Game: Sullivan’s 16-0 in the first half was what turned the game around the Eagles’ favor. After trailing 14-3, Caleb Todd’s three consecutive 3-pointers got things rolling for the Eagles, who took over the lead and never trailed again.
