St. Mary’s is a top Class 4 contender while Cardinal Ritter is currently ranked No. 1 in Class 3. Both teams battled on even terms from start to finish with Ritter holding a small advantage throughout most of the game. However, St. Mary’s made its final push in the fourth quarter to edge the Lions 61-58.

MVP: Yahuza Rasas (St. Mary’s): The 6’6″ 2018 forward scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Dragons to the victory. Rasas did an excellent job of controlling the action in the paint as he scored on low-post moves and offensive rebounds. When the Dragons needed a bucket, he delivered the goods.
Best Offensive Player: Yahuza Rasas (St. Mary’s): Rasas was really tough around the basket throughout the evening, but he also showcased a nice turn-and-face game when he knocked down a couple of 12 footers just off the low post.
Best Shooter: Yuri Collins (St. Mary’s): The 5’11” 2019 point guard scored 12 points, all of his four 3-pointers. This wouldn’t have been the case a year ago as Collins was known better for his driving that his shooting ability. Now, he is turning his 3-point shooting into a strength.
Best Bench Player: Malek Davis (Cardinal Ritter): The 5’10” 2019 guard did not start the game as it was Senior Night at Ritter, but his impact was felt when he entered the game as he scored 12 points. He had an impressive 10-point run in the third quarter when he showcased his mid-range jumper and a couple of 3-pointers as well.
Best Young Prospect (2019, 2020): Yuri Collins (St. Mary’s) – Collins scored 12 points and knocked down four 3-pointers while running the show and displaying some excellent passing skills which make him one of the top young point guards in the state.
Biggest Shot: Tony Burks (St. Mary’s): It was a quiet night for Burks for the most part, but the 6’2″ 2018 guard came through when his team needed it most when he knocked down a 3-pointer with 1 minute and 36 seconds left to break a 56-56 tie. Burks has been the Dragons’ version of Mr. Big Shot throughout his career.
Most Entertaining Play: Xavier Womack (Cardinal Ritter): In the first half, Ritter broke through St. Mary’s press when guard Ryan Trice dribbled up court and lofted a pretty alley-oop pass to the 6’6″ 2017 forward Womack, who rose up and threw down a thunderous one-handed slam dunk that really got the packed house going.
Best Individual Matchup: Yahuza Rasas vs. Xavier Womack: In a game full of guards, it was nice to see these two 6’6″ athletes showcase their skills as they led their respective teams in scoring and rebounding. Rasas had 18 points and 10 rebounds for St. Mary’s while Womack had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Ritter.
