Ben Davis continued their strong play into the second half easily cruising to the win 77-58.
Leading scorers: Fishers: Jamil Turner-Hall 17, Willie Jackson 16, Reid Stephens 8, Connor Washburn 8. Ben Davis: Josh Brewer 21, Aaron Henry 18, Kyle Finch 13, R.J. Turner 9.
Leading rebounders: Fishers: Connor Washburn 5, Willie Jackson 4. Ben Davis: Aaron Henry 7, Josh Brewer 6.
MVP: Aaron Henry (Ben Davis)
Henry did it all for Ben Davis in this one. He was strong with the ball and finished at the rim multiple times. Henry looked the part of a future MM+ kid on the wing that can power his way to the rim. He knocked down everything he put up. He scored 18 points.
Best offensive performance: Jamil Turner-Hall (Fishers)
Turner-Hall really got it going in the second half and put his team on his back scoring wise. He looked solid on the drive and used his body well to create contact. It was a big of an off night for him but he still produced.
Best defensive performance: Armaan Franklin (Fishers)
Franklin continues to be a force on the defensive end of the ball. He had four steals in this one and is just so long he’s hard to get the ball around. Just a sophomore and his IQ is already really high. He’s a joy to watch on the defensive side of the ball because of his effort.
Play of the Game: Jamil Turner-Hall to Connor Washburn
Early in the game Turner-Hall threw an alley-oop to Washburn on a wide-open set play. He threw it down and energized the crowd
Best guy off the bench: R.J. Turner (Ben Davis)
Turner came off the bench and provided a spark for Ben Davis and scored nine points. He was nails at the line going 6/6 and hit a deep ball as well. Turner also had five rebounds and looked like a solid sixth man.
Best underclassman: Willie Jackson (Fishers)
Jackson scored 16 points on 5/8 shooting from the floor and 6/6 from the charity stripe. He was impressive driving the ball and even added a couple steals on the defensive end of the ball. Jackson is a small guard but has a huge motor and will continue to put up points this year.
Best under-the-radar performance: Josh Brewer (Ben Davis)
It’s hard to be under-the-radar when you lead your team in scoring but that’s exactly what Brewer was tonight. No one really noticed him scoring a ton because he did it so sporadically. A steal and a dunk here and three a few threes, and I look down and Brewer is 9/9 from the floor for 21 points. Brewer continues to be an under-the-radar recruit as well.
Best passer: Datrion Harper (Ben Davis)
Harper runs the lead guard role well for Ben Davis. He’s a crisp passer and has a high IQ. Harper had five assists in the game and really showcased that part of his game all night long throwing an oop and setting guys up for easy shots.
Best shooter: Jalen Newsom (Ben Davis)
Newsom was easily the best shooter in the game tonight. The prospect is a good shooter from deep and he showed it tonight going 3/3 from behind the arc. That is the norm for him this year as his shooting touch.
Best rebounder: Connor Washburn (Fishers)
Washburn is much more athletic than he looks and in his first game back from injury he really hit the boards hard. He may not have had a high number but he grabbed pretty much every single one that came his way. He looked good under the basket and was active in looking for someone to box out.
Best takeaway: Ben Davis is one of the most athletic teams in the state and it showed tonight as they walked all over Fishers due to their athleticism. They threw down at least five dunks and just pushed it in transition all night long. Fishers is not long enough to handle the athleticism of Ben Davis although they are still pretty good.
