Ben Davis hung with North Central again until the third quarter. North Central outscored Ben Davis 20-9 in the third and took a 54-42 lead into the fourth. Ben Davis couldn’t really muster a run losing the game 70-59
Leading scorers: North Central: Emmanuel Little 29, Mateo Rivera 16, Ty’Riek Johnson 12. Ben Davis: Josh Brewer 19, Aaron Henry 14, Datrion Harper 13.
Leading rebounders: North Central: Emmanuel Little 8, Kris Wilkes 7. Ben Davis: Aaron Henry 8.
MVP: Emmanuel Little (North Central)
Little continues to play like the best player in the state and lead the team. He had 29 points on 8/10 shooting from the floor and 5/6 from the line and also added in eight rebounds. He led the team from start to finish and was easily the best player on the floor.
Best offensive performance: Ty’Riek Johnson (North Central)
Johnson didn’t miss a shot from the floor hitting a pair from the line, inside the arc and behind it. He finished with 12 points and added in two assists. He looked like a really decent fourth scorer on the team that can step up when someone isn’t scoring the ball. He did that tonight.
Best defensive performance: Kris Wilkes (North Central)
In a game where Wikes struggled on offense, he really played well on defense and hit length forced Ben Davis not to get many open looks from the floor. He led both teams with eight rebounds and also added in two blocks. He was matched up on Aaron Henry most of the night and made him take a few bad shots.
Best under-the-radar performance: Datrion Harper (Ben Davis)
Harper was overshadowed at the guard position because of North Central’s talent and the shooting of his teammates but he ended up with a solid final line of 13 points, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Harper is a really quick guard that makes plays all over the floor.
Best guy off the bench: TreVaughn Bush (Ben Davis)
Bush came off the bench and scored seven points on 3/4 shooting. He played bigger than he is and was impressive being able to score at the basket. He rebounded well on the defensive end as well hauling in four rebounds.
Best shooter: Josh Brewer (Ben Davis)
Whenever Ben Davis plays you can pretty much guarantee that Brewer will shoot it well, tonight was no different. He scored 19 points on 7/12 shooting as well as shooting 3/6 from behind the arc. He’s a guy who will always score 8+ in a game.
Best rebounder: Kris Wilkes (North Central)
For a guy who plays a combo guard, small forward position and is a bit thin, he crashes the boards really well. He does a lot of the rebounding on the offensive glass for putbacks but also is aggressive during the later part of games on the defensive glass. He had seven rebounds tonight.
Best plays: Emmanuel Little throws it down
Late in the game, Little threw down two huge dunks that pretty much iced the game for the win. It was a good cap to the night for him.
Best takeaway: North Central is for sure the team to beat in 4A this year. After beating a very good Ben Davis team by 11 in a game where their best player scored six points, I just can’t see them losing a game this year unless they have a really bad game. They are easily the best team in Indiana.
