The Cardinal Division featured several upsets as No. 4 seeded Northtown (North Kansas City) met No. 3 seeded St. Joe Central as the top two seeds were upset along the way. Here are the standouts from Friday at Liberty.
Matt Austin, 6’0, G, 2017, Central
Along with Jaiden Bristol, Austin is 1/2 of a terrific backcourt tandem that is among the Kansas City area’s best. He can really shoot it from the perimeter, and is at his best handling the ball and getting Central into its offense.
T.J. Babikir, 6’0, G, 2018, North KC
One of the more overlooked players in the Kansas City area, Babikir is a terrific all-around player that can shoot from the outside, move well without the ball and finds a way to score buckets. He has helped North KC start the season 9-2 and more attention will come his way as his Hornet team continues to excel.
Jaiden Bristol, 6’0, G, 2017, Central
Has to be among the better all-around players in the Kansas City area. He is a hybrid guard that can play with the ball or off the ball, but he just finds a way to do a little bit of everything. He has helped lead St. Joseph Central to a 10-1 record and was named the MVP of the Cardinal Division after scoring 23 points in the championship.
Jordan Lathon, 6’4, G, 2018, Grandview
Lathon is a terrific all-around player with a lot of upside. He is long, athletic, has terrific size for a point guard and brings good leadership skills to the court.
Jalen Lewis, 5’10, G, 2018, Liberty
One of the better point guards in the Kansas City area, Lewis can really shoot it from distance and opened the season on fire from the 3-point arc. He cooled off some at Jewell but remains of the area’s better junior guards.
