A big-body guard, Hicks possesses an all-around game with the ability to play multiple positions, but is at his best when he is attacking the rim.
He spent the offseason competing with the Kansas City Pacers and said the experience paid off as he showcased his game and worked on his ball handling and shooting.
“It was a great experience for me. I think it truly turned me into the player I am now,” he said.
After advancing to the Class 4 Final Four, the 2016-17 has had its ups-and-downs as the Irish battle injuries. Lafayette is currently 5-6 playing a tough schedule and Hicks said expectations for the remainder of the season are still high.
“We are currently at full health and hopefully can remain that way so we can grow as a team,” he said. “I embrace being a senior leader on the team and a contributor to the scoring load.”
Hicks said he is looking forward to a match-up against cross town rival Saint Joseph Benton on Feb. 7. The Cardinals are off to an 8-4 start this season.
A fan of Chris Paul, Hicks said his mom has been the biggest influence on his basketball career.
“When I was young and I told her I wanted to play basketball, she has always been my biggest supported and made sure that basketball is in my everyday routine,” Hicks said. “She is always the first one to tell that me that I should go to the gym, and workout or put up shots, and I love her and thank her for the time, money and support she has given me throughout my career.”
Hicks currently holds an offer from Graceland and says he has five visits at different schools lined up after the season.
