McKeeman goes to Carroll High School and ran this summer with Team Teague. The sophomore guard also posts a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.
“I think as a team we have been very solid to start the season.” McKeeman is right about that. Carroll is off to a good start this season posting a 5-2 record with their only losses to South Bend Adams to open the season and a tough loss to Bishop Luers in the SAC Tournament second round where they lead most of the game.
Dan knows that this team has a very high potential and when they clean a few things up with their play, turnovers and energy on the defensive end, that they will have a strong second half of the season after the break.
Dan is the younger brother of current Purdue basketball player Jon McKeeman who also went through Carroll High School. He knows what it takes to play basketball at the next level and is a student of the game off the court. “I have watched a lot of film of our past couple games where I had not played as well as I had started the season”. Watching game film and understanding the circumstances that mistakes were made will help McKeeman progress as a young guard at the high school level.
Watching game film and studying certain aspects also makes McKeeman a strong asset for his team on the floor. “I think I’m the coach on the floor for my team because I try to keep all my guys on the same page with what we are doing.” Having a sophomore step in as the extension of the coach on the floor is rare. Dan is going to be a great piece for the Chargers moving forward this season.
McKeeman is known for his catch and shoot ability which helps draw defenders out and opens up driving lanes for his teammates. Not only can Dan fill it up from deep at a high percentage, he also has the ball handling skill to break defenders down and create opportunities for others. He is working hard on that aspect of his game and becoming a more true-PG.
As Dan continues to work on his game, he is pushing to have a quicker first step and being stronger with his passes and rebounding. Dan understands where he needs to put the work in outside of team practices and games and takes the time to make sure that he is doing so.
As his game progresses and he gets more exposure, Dan will be on the radar of a handful of schools. “I have worked out with and toured IPFW and Indiana Wesleyan University.” This is just the beginning of the recruiting process for the sophomore guard.
With his scoring and passing abilities accompanied with being a strong student in the classroom and of the game, McKeeman will start to show up on school’s radars here soon. His work ethic of the court has got him thus far and he understands that he is far from where he wants to be.
Keep an eye out for the sophomore guard to have a strong second half of the season with the Carroll Chargers and to push even harder heading into next summer. McKeeman is on the right path to generate some great opportunities in the near future.
