“I feel like people know me as a shooter,” said Johnson, who said basketball is just something he’s loved since a young age. “I’ve been really working to round my game drive more, penetrate more, be more of a team leader. I think I’ve done a better job of that this year.”
Johnson has hit 47 threes in 16 games so far this year. He has hit five or more treys in five separate games this season. Due to an increased role as a junior, Johnson has really worked to expand his game over the summer.
“My ability to get to the basket has definitely improved,” Johnson stated. “Last year I was relied upon more strictly as a shooter.”
Prior to this season, Johnson had amassed a superb 4.2 GPA. His junior class schedule is stuffed with 4 Advanced Placement courses this year, but Johnson is still maintaining a near 4.0 GPA. What’s one thing Johnson does well on the court that most people don’t realize?
“Passing. Everyone thinks cause of m height I don’t really pass, just rebound,” Johnson began. “But I think I’m a very good passer.”
While Johnson is currently receiving interest from a handful of division three programs, he understands to play at the highest level that he will need to continue to work on his ball-handling among other things. What can coaches who are recruiting Johnson expect him to bring to a college program?
“I love working. I love getting shots up. I’ll just bring everything I’ve got to a team.”
