It was an exciting evening in wine country as both semifinals games were decided in overtime. St. James defeated host Hermann 60-57 in the first semifinal while Warrenton defeated Montgomery County 75-73 in the second contest.
Here is a look at some of the top 2017 standouts from those games. All of them are good small-college prospects.
Trey Marshall 5’9″ St. James: The diminutive guard was one of the best shooters in the tournament. Scored a game-high 18 points, which included four 3-pointers. Appropriately named Trey, Marshall has deep shooting range and a quick release to go with it. He did a nice job of working off screens and doing his work to be shot-ready despite the tight defensive pressure he was getting.
Chase Parrish 6’4″ Montgomery County – A versatile wing player who scorhooting range and a quick release. He did a nice job of coming off screens and doing his work to be ready to shoot despite tough defensive pressure.ed 23 points in the Wildcats overtime loss to Warrenton. Parrish has the ability to score anywhere on the court. He got buckets on some nice post moves, but he is a weapon on the perimeter with his size and skill set with his ability to drive and score in the mid-range area. Parrish can also knock down a 3-pointer. I like how he uses the backboard.
Trevor Alberternst 6’5″ Warrenton – A solid post player who scored 15 points in the Warriors overtime victory over Montgomery County. He did an excellent job of finishing around the basket as he was seven of nine from the field. He catches the ball well and goes up strong every time. Provides good steady play and leadership on a team full of underclassmen.
Matthew Heidger 6’0″ Hermann – Scored 14 points in the overtime loss to St. James, but he knocked down a clutch 3-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation to force the overtime session. A very good perimeter shooter who knocked down three 3-pointers in the game. He’s also a very solid ball handler and passer.
Trey McKague 6’3″ Hermann – Hard working post player who scored 15 points in the semifinals against St. James. McKague plays with a high motor in the pursuit for low post buckets and rebounds. Did a nice job of working the high post and crashing the offensive glass.
Matthew Wade 6’4″ Hermann – Another blue collar post player who scored 13 points in the semifinals against St. James. Plays well in tandem with McKague in the low post for the Bearcats. He works the baseline well and did a nice job of finishing around the basket.
